Re: Pain on one side of throat
I've had this same thing for the past three weeks. I've had three throat swabs for Strep done, and two blood tests for Mononucleosis. All tests have come back negative. Ive been on three different strengths of Antibiotics, and they all worked, until i stopped taking them, then my tonsils would swell up back to the size of ping pong *****. Like you i am petrified that because they can't give me an answer to why this is happening it is something horrible. Just to let yo know your not alone. Once you find out what it is, can ya let me know so i can suggest my doctor looks for that?
Hope you feel better

Re: Pain on one side of throat
Have you been to an Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) doctor? I have the same exact thing (I am a 26 year old female)--except mine has gone on for almost three years now. I had gone to over 7 doctors and finally was diagnosed with acid reflux (GERD). I still have no answer to why the pain is only on the left side (I too have pain that radiates into my ear) but they think it is just the way my body is made. Strangely enough, I associated my pain with my menstrual cycle. I am on birth control pill--usually worse when you are not on the pill--(I get the pain one week before and into my cycle) but I consulted with a gynecologist and she said that many women get GERD from increased hormones in the body and it only comes associating with your menstration cycle. so now they are changing me to the "mini pill" which is a progesterone only pill. I will keep you posted on whether or not this works.
Also, don't rule yourself out because you don't have heartburn symptoms. Many people do not have the typical symptoms. Your best bet is to see a good, recommended ENT.Last edited by spicerma00; September 6th, 2006 at 03:44 AM.

Re: Pain on one side of throat
I too have been experiencing pain on the left side of my throat. It's there each time I swallow and if I drink juice or soda, it burns, radiating to my left ear. My scalp on the left side is tender and sore to the touch. I was at the ER last weekend and they did a CT Scan and swabbed my throat and found nothing. I went to see my PCP Tuesday she did blood work and found nothing. I don' t know what to think because something is obviously going on. Please email us and let us know what any of you find out and I will do the same.

Re: Pain on one side of throat
I'm too having neck pain on my left side, difficulty swallowing liquids, some left shoulder pain. I was diagnosed about a year ago with shoulder bursitis and had a cortisone injection in it. It worked. But I have recently read you can get bursitis in your neck and as a matter of fact, my orthopedic surgeon had asked me (a year ago) if I had neck pain proceeding the shoulder pain. I HAD! sooo, I think this is "bursitis" in my throat although they call it something else. I will be calling the doc tomorrow though and will let you know. Whatever I have, I know its not an infection. This is not a sore throat. It is a sore neck!! Karen

Re: Pain on one side of throat
I am a 49 year old male with similar symptoms that just began three days ago. It started out as ice-pick type pain in my left ear, sensitive scalp (left side) then progressed to a sore throat. I have yet to see a doctor and will wait several more days before I do. Hoping it goes away on its own. It seems to be progressing - scalp is less sensitive, ear pain has diminished, sore throat is now raging. Am I the only male who has posted? I live in Florida (central east coast)...I post that because I wonder if it is something in the environment I've been exposed to. Also, my wife and two children have not contracted what I seem to have.
