Re: chronic bacterial vaginosis that won't go away
DOM,
The NAET doesnt take medical insurance and my medical insurance doesnt cover holistic doctors. I found a holistic doctor whom was working with one of my bosses and his consultation alone is 300.00 I dont make that kind of money. SOO here I am again being forced to take antibiotics.
In all honesty I THINK I am allergic to my boyfriend. LOL as crazy as it is...i think I am. It is something that goes away with Benedryl and no sex for a couple of days. BEFORE I Know it was BV only because the cultures kept coming back full of bacteria. Now that they are clean..I have nothing else to blame it on. I think what I am going to do is have sex with a condom and see if I get the same reaction ( I am not allergic to latex) If I dont then I can assume it is my boyfriend, yes? IF I do then I have to say its more than likely I still have BV and it is only showing up during sex?? Am I safe to say that? I dont have anymore antibiotics to take and well honestly I am not taking Bactrim everytime I have sex...bc honestly what if I have sex 4x a day? that is not safe....NOT at all..blahhhh
I am going to look into the NAET and then see where I get.
Thanks for all of your help.

I am going to look

Re: chronic bacterial vaginosis that won't go away
If DOM or anyone could please take the time to offer suggestions, it would be much appreciated!!
I definately can relate to a lot of the posts on this forum. I am 23 and have been battling BV for almost 6 months. Before being diagnosed I was able to have a healthy sex life. Perhaps this is too much information, but before the BV I was able to have sex even several times a day with no irritation or pain. Now, I can't even have sex for more than a few minutes without experiencing inflamation and horrible burning. I have been in and out of the doctor's office and nothing seems to help. For awhile I was even being given medicine for yeast infections and BV at the same time. I have tried Clindamycin, metronidazole, and diflucan. These medicines seem to help for a while but the symptoms always seem to come back. I usually notice abnormal discharge, redness and swelling around the vagina. A few weeks ago I went back to the Dr. and was diagnosed with BV and strep vaginitis. I had never heard of the strep, but was put on Clindamycin and amoxicilin to cure the BV and strep. Things seemed to be better for about a week and then I noticed an abnormal amount of discharge and extremely painful burning and itching after sex. I stumbled upon this forum, desperate to find an answer. After reading many posts I decided to try a more natural approach to solve my problem. I went to vitamin shoppe and bought Nature's Way Reuteri pills which I take 2 a day orally and have mixed two with yogurt and insert in my vagina at night. I also take 2 golden seal pills a day, 1 acidophilus bead (only 1 billion cultures per pill) a day and 2 drops of oil of oregano orally a day. I have been doing this routine for 3 days but have not noticed any relief. THe yogurt application did help soothe the burning and itching for a while. Today I went to the Dr. again to get blood work done and she did another culture on me. The results for BV came back negative! But unfortunately she said that I had a yeast infection, uggg. It seems like a vicious cycle. I am convinced that taking the antibiotics to cure the BV and strep caused the yeast infection. My Dr. prescribed me with more Diflucan and told me to continue taking the probiotics. I don't know if I should fill the Diflucan prescription or just try to see if the probiotics will work on their own. DOM, you seem to have helped a lot of people on this forum. Would you recommend I just continue with my probiotic treatment and try not to fill the Diflucan? I don't know how much more of the itchiness and discharge I can take, it's so uncomfortable. I'm trying to give the probiotics time to work but it's frustrating! Do you think that the routine I am on (Reuteri, Golden Seal, Acidophilus, and Oil of Oregano) will eventually work or do you think I need to take the extra step and do a candida cleanse? My partner has also been checked before and has no STD's. However, is it possible that he could be re-infecting me with yeast? Any suggestions would be helpful and much appreciated. Thank you!

Re: chronic bacterial vaginosis that won't go away
I am sorry you are going through all this! You are not alone...IMO I am not a fan of diflucan, and would recommend doing a candida cleanse. Diflucan is an antifungal med, so you have been diagnosed with candida overload. Diflucan is hard on the liver, and I fear if you take this you will continue to see poor results.
Please google candida cleanses and also a product called Threelac. I have taken Threelac off and on for years, and it has really helped me for candida overload. Also, Get a good quality oil of oregano in gelcaps or capsules - find one that has around 200 mgs of the active ingredient. NOW is a very good company and very reasonable. I also like their Candida Clear, which has pau d'arco, caprylic acid, and black walnut...the oregano drops you are taking - is it essential oil of oregano? Don't know if this is enough to get the fungus under control.
Be prepared for a good two month cleanse to really get candida under control. Visit www.wholeapproach.com and type out their food lists as diet is crucial to keeping everything in balance.
Another soothing product I like is called Herbal Aloe Force skin gel, and you can use this topically on the irritated areas - very soothing.
I don't recommend the garlic at this time due to the redness and inflammation, but if this clears up do try to insert a raw cut clove of garlic at night.
Check your partner for candida - it is so often spread from partner to partner, like an std. If you decide to get Threelac, he can take this as well...it's pricey, but really worth it.
Your partner should also be taking probiotics.
Hope this helps. Be patient, and also look for a good naturopath or kinesiologist or other holistic practitioner to help you. Taking repeated doses of antibiotics and antifungal meds is just not the way to go IME.
Best wishes

Re: chronic bacterial vaginosis that won't go away
Thank you, DOM, for your response. As of right now I am taking Vitamin Shoppe Oil of Oregano, liquid form, two drops under the tongue every day. it says it has extra virgin olive oil, and wild mediterranean oregano oil, 50 mg per 2 drops. Do you think this won't be affective and should I purchase the oregano pills you suggested? I'm also taking 2 Nature's Way Reuteri pills orally and 2 mixed with yogurt vaginally a day. I used a oral syringe to insert the yogurt but noticed that a lot of the yogurt leaked out. I'm afraid that if a lot of it leaks out, it won't be effective
I'm also taking 1 Vitamin Shoppe Golden Seal Root 500 mg pills twice a day and 1 Natrol BioBeads Acidophilus complex once a day. Do you think the combination of all of these things should fight off the yeast? I know you said you don't recommend Diflucan but I don't know if I can put up with all this itchiness and discharge until the probiotic treatment kicks in! I'm going to look into the candida cleanse and try that as well. Also, I noticed before I was diagnosed with the yeast that after I had sex was when most of the symptoms kicked in (horrible burning and red inflamation of the vulva). Is it possible that I can be allergic to my boyfriend's sperm? It seems that if he doesn't ejaculate inside, it doesn't hurt as much (sorry for the vulgarity). At this point I am willing to try anything, and hoping that my priobiotic/goldenseal/oil of oregano treatment will kick in soon. I am tempted to fill the Diflucan prescription for immediate relief but worried that perhaps it will cause the BV to return... Now that I have the BV under control I'm scared it could return but hope the probiotics will ward it off. I plan on getting my boyfriend on a probiotic as well, hoping that if he has any yeast it will stabilize it. One last question, if I purchase the Threelac, how much should I buy. I want to kick this candida in the **** for good! Thank you for all your help! P.S. *A* I'm sorry you're in the same boat as me. I will let you know what works for me!

Re: chronic bacterial vaginosis that won't go away
I don't think that is enough oregano oil...I would double the dose at the very least. I have had to take very large doses of oregano oil to help with sinusitis issues. So try this for a few days and see if it helps.
Yes, it is possible to be allergic to his semen. Visit www.naet.com for info on a NAET practitioner near you - they can test this and see if there is an allergic response via muscle response testing.
Also, if the yogurt is making your symptoms worse, discontinue using it. You may have dairy intolerances causing a worsening of your symptoms (again NAET can help verify this). Check to see if your probiotics are diary based, or dairy free.
It is best to do the yogurt insertion just before bedtime. You may be using too much if it is leaking out - try a little less. I use a organic cotton pad to help...
If you purchase Threelac, I would go for two boxes, one for the cleanse and one box to keep on hand for maintenence. Buy from a company that offers a money back guarantee - most websites provide that, but make sure it offers this. That way, if you don't feel better in a month, you can return if for a full refund. Most people who take this, myself included, feel MUCH better after a couple of weeks.
Absolutely get your bf on the probiotic - make sure he is taking this i think it will help.
Best wishes

Re: chronic bacterial vaginosis that won't go away
I was reading an article about an antibiotic called Tindamax....Has anyone been prescribed that medicine? I have only been prescribed Flagyl and clindamycin and those didn't work. The probiotics do not work for me. I have been taking them for over 8 months and nothing. My GYN actually told me that acidophillus does not help BV but it wouldn't hurt me to take it. Anway, I was just wondering about Tindamax because I am going to the doctor again *sigh* on the 2nd of May.

Re: chronic bacterial vaginosis that won't go away
Why not try a different, more holistic doctor to help - one who could prescribe herbs or other supplements, rather than another nasty antibiotic.
You are right acidophilus is not usually enough to treat bv. People have reported good reults with reuterii, but you would need to try several different brands and strains to find one that worked.
Have you tried the fresh garlic? What about oil of oregano?
I know you probably just want one simple pill to make everything better, but that pill doesn't exist...unfortunately!
Best wishes

Re: chronic bacterial vaginosis that won't go away
The reason why I want to try another antibiotic is because here is the list of things I have tried for over a year now and nothing has worked. I haven't taken antibiotics for 9 months.
Flagyl x2 oral, x2 gel
clindamycin gel x2
boric acid x9 months (supposed to only use for 6 months) from Rockwellnutrition.com
acidophillus
yogurt mixed with acidophillus vaginally
hydrogen peroxide/water ******
HLC high potency powder x9 months (12 billion viable cells) from Rockwellnutrition.com
vitamin C
multivitamins
folic acid
tea tree oil
fresh garlic as a suppository
immunitone plus from Rockwellnutrition.com
alli-cinn from Rockwellnutrition.com (which is garlic and cinnamon)
Enzara (waste of money)
Femanol (waste of money)
Rephresh
grape seed extract
bee propolis
mesosilver
apple cidar vinegar ******
intestinal purifier from Rockwellnutrition.com
and I just ordered godenseal with echinacea
I think I have tried enough herbal things and I don't think they are going to work for me. All of those things were actually a waste of money because they didn't work and the stuff from rockwellnutrition.com is expensive too.

Re: chronic bacterial vaginosis that won't go away
I understand your point. At any time though did you consult with a holistic specialist on this problem? Have you had your hormones tested?
A good kinesiologist or NAET practitioner may be able to offer insight to your chronic issues. It is odd that you have had NO relief after trying all those treatments.
