    Default Hepatitis C question

About a year and a half ago, I may have come in contact with hepatitis C. Here's the story. I was drinking with a couple of friends of mine. One of my friends was playing with a set of jumper cables and he cut my thumb pretty good. My other friend had recently gotten a tattoo with a very small scab. Somehow we got the idea that we should do a blood brothers thing. He picked his scab and i rubbed my thumb on it. Recently, he learned that a girl he was dating around that time is positive for hepatitis c and was positive while they were dating. I'm certain they had sex, although I'm unsure if they used protection or not. How great of a risk is there that I could have contracted hepatitis c?

It can spread that way however, sexual contact is much more likely. It's just bad judgement in this day and age to "comingle" blood!!! There are worse things than Hep C out there!!! If fact, Hep B is spreading in the US like wildfire and it can last on an INANIMATE SURFACE FOR UP TO A WEEK!!! IT IS A VERY RESILIENT VIRUS. WHY TAKE FOOLISH CHANCES???
ALSO TB, AIDS, 5 TYPES OF HEPATITIS AND A SLEW OF OTHER CONTAGIOUS THINGS ARE VERY MUCH ALIVE AND WELL OUT THERE!!! AS A MASSAGE THERAPIST FOR MANY MOONS AND AN ACUPUNCTURE PHYSICIAN IN TRAINING- UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS ARE THE ONLY SAFE PRACTICE. IN OTHER WORDS- TREAT EVERYONE AS THOUGH THEY HAVE A COMMUNICABLE DISEASE- DON'T EVER ASSUME (BY LOOKS) THAT SOMEONE IS HEALTHY OR NOT. IT'S NOT WORTH YOUR HEALTH OR YOUR LIFE!!! BY "COMINGLING BLOOD", YOU NOT ONLY EXPOSE YOURSELF TO THE OBVIOUS BAD DISEASES, BUT ON A MORE SUBTLE LEVEL, EVERYTHING THAT PERSON HAS EVER BEEN EXPOSED TO. BLOOD CARRIES GENETIC MATERIAL AND WHEN YOU ENER IT INTO YOUR BLOOD SYSTEM, IT COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS I.E, RH FACTOR IN RED BLOOD CELLS. THE WRONG RH FACTOR COULD KILL A PERSON, OR MAKE THEM FIGHT THEIR OWN BLOOD/BODY POST EXPOSURE. THINK BEFORE YOU DO BLOOD-BROTHER TYPE STUFF!!! BE WELL~NAMASTE'

I was under the impression that blood-to-blood contact is worse then sexual contact in regards to Hepatitis C. How great of a risk is there that I've contracted it?

Let me rephrase that. Are you saying because of the nature of the situation, contraction thru sex is greater than risk I took?

Contracting hep c whilst having sex is possible but not very probable...on the other hand blood to blood contact can put you in a very high risk catargory...my best advice is have a blood test asap because if you do have it the harsh reality is lifestyle changes such as no more alchohol...sorry to be alarmist but this is a serious problem affecting many people...

If you did become exposed to Hep C ,see a DR. ASAP !
If you are young and healthy the medicines that are out there have much ,much higher chance of fighting off the virus before your viral levels build up too high.

The highest risk, of course, is blood/blood. Sexual transmission is incredibly rare, is listed as approx. less than 1% - 3%. Although, it is advised to inform you partners if you have Hep C regardless. If you've had blood/blood contact with a person infected with Hep C, especially if you're that concerned about it, just get tested - then you'll know.

    Talking Re: Hepatitis C question

I would say that the chances of your having it are minimal. I say this because there is a very narrow group who supposedly got it from sexual intercourse. I have had 3 husbands and hep C since 1985 and none of them had or have contracted it. I would say worry more about the tat than his girlfriend. And I think a high 5 or thumbs up cool dude as my 3 yr old says would be a future way to deal with those thoughts of blood brothers etc...I will say in all seriousness that you should go to the family planning clinic and get checked out for all STD's and get a good bill of health and then trust me on this don't use until you are certain that it will not be something AJAX can not get rid of. Everyone deserves more than a quick mistake and then death... Peace out to all. Now onward with my battle to deal the dragon a horrible hit.

I do know of one way of not getting hep c is to have each other tested at the beginning of the relationship. I know a lot of people that have hep c and they live a completly normal life and have not spread it on to their spouse, or boyfriend or whomever. I say rubbing your blood together is more likely to scare me because of HIV. If one person has had sex with more than 1 person that puts you at a higher risk. Then you're basically sleeping with all of them. You might or he might not know if he's got HIV. So I would be more worried about that. Also some of the people with hep c have to take the treatment and some don't. Get checked and while you're getting checked for that get checked for HIV.
