lower mid back pain constipation
Quit smoking may 10 2010.
Discomfort started several months ago w/ lower back pain had constipation and stomach fullness after eating. This started before I quit smoking. Constipation and back and stomach pain have worsened. Stomach fullness is worse after eating.
Had an ultra sound last week and colonoscopy exam today. Dr.s said tests were normal. Drs say my symptoms are caused by body reacting to not smoking.
For 6 weeks have been eating only healthy food (fruits, vegs, activia yogart etc..) and taken over the counter laxitives and zantaz which helps some but pain persists. The pain worses when I stand for a little while. At a sporting even yesterday standing for two hours I did not think I was going to be able to walk back to my car the pain was so severe in lower back. The pain has worsened since I've eaten better and started mild exercise, not gotten better.
Can quitting smoking cause this? What worries me is that the pain is getting worse not better.
Any ideas?

Re: lower mid back pain constipation
Its been over 3 1/2 days since my last BM and that was induced by the harsh BM causing liquids I took to clean out my system prescribed by my Dr in prep for my colonoscopy exam. There are no signs of any movement in my digestive system despite the fruit, vegs and better diet, laxitives, exercise, and stool softeners I've been taking for almost 2 months prior to the exam and continue to take.
I'm going on a long vacation in two days and can not risk going through this intense pain again so far from home. I broke down and smoked again. I know that was stupid and its no long term solution and a horrible trade off. The risks of smoking are proven. I will try to quit again when I return from vacation with a better understanding of what I'm facing when I quit again and this time with a more organized plan of gradually easing my sytem to cope without the cigarettes.
I can feel my digestion starting again after less than a pack of smokes. I guess it was too much of a shock to my system to go cold turkey.
