    Question How long is normal?

Hi, I have had a lung infection on the right and it was treated with 2 courses of antibiotics which cleared it up. I was then hit with pain on the right side of my ribs that came and went. I put it down to a guest bed i was sleeping on but then as it got worse I saw a Doctor who sent me for an x-ray which showed nothing much some evidence of previous mild phnumonia I think anyway the Dr said I had Pluerisy which he said he wouldn't give me antibiotics for due to the recent 2 week courses I had had fot the lung infection. I have now had pluerisy symtoms for at least 3 weeks now and I am wondering what the normal duration is? The pain is worse when it is cold and also at night and first thing in the morning. I have trouble sitting up from a lying position. I would appreciate any advice and I am off to the Doctor on Monday for a 2nd opinion. Cheers, Sara from Australia.

Angry Re: How long is normal?

I was taken to hospital in January with chronic pains in the right side of my chest/lungs and after lots of tests was told it was pleurisy and that I had to rest and take paracetemol. I was off work for 4 weeks. The pain was much worse when I moved, and first thing in the morning. It gradually got better over time, but I still get twinges even now and its August!!! If I've been anywhere cold it's worse or if I do anything too physical. I'm fed up with it. I went back to the doctor in May and he said I could be like this for 2 yrs as all my nerves will be ultra sensitive. Any suggestions???

I was told that it was fibrmyalgia. It's lizzi9983. It's a thing called Costochondritis. here's a link. because what your talking about sounds like fibromyalgia, esp. if you have else where in your body and are stressed.

Unhappy Re: How long is normal?

I am going to ask my Dr about the suggestions, thanks. Mine is also worse, and has gone from being non-existant to really bad in the last week or so since the weather changed. I had "it", whatever it is, in the spring also and they put me on celebrex and I was diagnosed with pleurisy. I am going back again and seeing a different doctor to see what they have to say. I can't even doing anything active because my chest hurts so bad and it is in back as well on the left side.
