I am very reclusive and prefer to keep to myself im 23 and dont like to socialize, defentely more of the home type and get very annoyed with people so i prefer to be alone. I dont know what this is all about but the thing is im fine with it just was wanting some advice?

Ah, I see...I'm not sure that one symptom qualifies you for a diagnosis of schizophrenia or any of the related disorders? Do you feel depressed any?

Re: Schitzoid personality disorder?
Also, please don't rely on internet personality disorder/any other test that purports to give you a diagnosis.Psychiatry is a complex area, and diagnoses will vary from Dr to Dr.An individual may be diagnosed with one condition, or several. Also, I once had an interesting conversation with a psychiatrist about personality disorders (I work in mental health), and he said that all of us will be able to recognise some features (the diagnostic criteria) of each in ourselves (even him!), but it doesn't mean you have one.
I think getting into labels is a dodgy area - I know several people who've tried to '2nd guess' themselves in this way, and it can become a habit in itself....

I feel the exact same way, Erin. I've been holed up in my house for the past 8 months with my mother and brother....don't have a job and frankly, I have no interest in getting one. Like I could care less about work, and I have no close friends either, which I'm perfectly fine with.
What could this all be? I certainly feel your pain...I'd love answers to this, too.

Re: Schitzoid personality disorder?
erin, i feel the same way you do. i prefer to be alone and stay home. even if i do go out it's when i feel like it and i still am happy alone. people to me are a burden, but does it mean we have a problem? people most of the time are a pain in the ***. it seems when you let a person get to know you they are usually always in your space, want something from you, or turn out to have some kind of problem and it usually ends up taking up your time, money, privacy..etc. each day doesn't have enough hours it do all i have to do as it is-pay bills, do chores..laundry, shopping, work of some kind..dealing with the kids, errands, car problems..the world is so fast paced now, people are stressed out. we all need time for ourselves, quite time to think..i love my quite time to do what ever i want. people only hinder that. the rolling stones said it best when they sang "hey you..get off of my cloud" that's all i think it is erin...and you know what, i have a friend who feels exactly the way we do too. we talk or see each other about once every 3-4 months because we respect each others space and don't bother each other.

Re: Schitzoid personality disorder?
Just from what you said it doesnt sound like Schitzoid personality disorder to me. They have a lot more going on than just liking to be alone.
I wonder why they annoy you? Do you find that you are quite different to them?? maybe hate things such as "small talk"?I am very reclusive and prefer to keep to myself im 23 and dont like to socialize, defentely more of the home type and get very annoyed with people so i prefer to be alone.
One thing which comes to mind if someone says they are reclusive and dont like to socialise... (and get annoyed with people).. Is possible Asperger's syndrome.
(make sure thou that it isnt just something like depression causing the issues.. thou those with Asperger's often suffer from depression too).
I recently at 39 yrs old just got offically diagnosed with Asperger's. To learn more about Asperger's i suggest the "wrong planet" site (Its got a massive online forum so you can compare yourself to all the Asperger's people there).
http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt132160.html This current thread may interest the original poster as it was on schizotypal personality disorder and Asperger's
It is hard for one to get properly assessed for Asperger's esp if you are female and an adult as others can find it hard to pick up on as females with it have learnt to "blend" in with society but often we still have issues dealing with things eg people.
Females who may have Asperger's need to see a professional in Autism or Asperger's for a diagnoses (as ive found out that most mental health peoples dont really know much at all about this disorder when it comes to adults). I was able to contact my local Autism society and book in for an assessment as they didnt need any referals eg self refer (not sure if that works the same in other places in the world thou).
