seeing stars
I'm sure this is nothing serious because its happened all of my life. But I've often wondered what causes me to see "stars" sometimes if I turn my head, or lift my head. Does any one else have these symptoms? I've never heard anyone else talk about these stars. They only last for a few seconds, and only occur maybe a few times a year.
Just curious!
Thanks for your reply,
Judy T.

Re: seeing stars
Well, first of all, you are not alone.
Ha ha, second of all, I don't have an answer for this.
My situation is well, similar to yours. Sometimes just sometimes, I see small transparent shining lights that move slowly and then disappear after a few seconds. (I don't drink, I don't smoke, and I am not in drugs!
)
It happens to me....suddenly. I mean, is unexpected. One time, I was just in a class listening to our teacher and then they were there; Also when I was walking in the street, and when I was thinking alone.
This may sound strange but, I like to see them. I don't know if this is something serious or not, but as far as I know I am ok, my eyes are fine I can see very well.
Maybe it depends on something else. Or maybe it was given when we were born. As I said I don't know the cause.
I never minded this before, I will keep investigating a little....but I really don't think I will die or something.
Ha ha, take care! If I find anything I let you know.

Have you been tested for glaucoma. If not get yourself tested by an ophthalmologist, not an optician.

Re: seeing stars
I don't think my problem is that serious.... I mean becoming blind.
Ha ha, but I'll consider it. Why not?

Re: seeing stars
A lot of the time stars are caused by strain on the retina, I had a severe blundt trauma to my right eye and saw stars constantly for about 6 months while i was blind from having and eye full of bood. also chech your blood pressure when that happens and see what it says, blood pressure increases can strain the retina connecttion if it is weak or swolen from stress.

Re: seeing stars
Hiya
I agree with mcjb, 'stars', 'floaters' and 'glitter' are usually caused by straining the eye ( try looking at your armpit without moving your head) lol, or high blood pressure.
If you see these during pregnancy (without straining your eyes) speak to your midwife as it could mean your blood pressure has risen, possible caused by pre eclampsia.

Re: seeing stars
I never considered the blood pressure before.
Actually when I see the stars, I feel a little dizzy.
I will give it a try and review my blood pressure.... however, as I said before, I see the stars rarely... so I don´t know when it will happen again.
Mmm, I should find out when my blood pressure is low or high.
Ha ha, thanks a lot for the information, I´ll let you know the results... when I find it out

Re: seeing stars
I also sometimes see stars and feel dizzy when standing up or sitting up after laying down (or sitting) for a while I loked it up, and this is caused by the couple seconds of oxygen deprivation in your brain before blood is redistributed to it. The more athletic you are, the more time it may take for blood to reach your head because the heart beats slower (but more strongly) Im not sure if you have the same "condition" as me, but thats just speaking from my own experiences

Re: seeing stars
When I over exercise, I have seen stars for a few seconds in this state of being (being tired after exercising a lot).
And after all you mentioned, I have the feeling that blood pressure is still the main cause of seeing stars.
What cause blood pressure to be high or low? I feel, it depends on what we do. Ha ha, anyway, I feel seeing stars rarely is nothing ¨really bad¨. Unless you experience this frequently.
Take care

Re: seeing stars
Judy,
I don't think I can help on this subject except to tell you I have been having the same thing happen to me only more frequently! It will happen out of the blue. Like today, for instance, I happened to be walking, I turned my head slightly and BAM! I started seeing stars! Then, later today I come home and I got a shorter version of the stars by just turning my head! I started looking on the web to see what it might be but I can find nothing! I don 't have highblood pressure, I have had back problems and take medicine to be able to work, but I don't think it has anything to do with the stars. If you find out anything please let me know!
