calf aches
Whenever I sit, my calves ache (not cramp) and they are getting worse. I can barely sit for an half hour. It feels great to get up and walk around though. I'm not over weight and exercise daily. Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this? I am now taking Glucosamine, and calcium.
Thanks,
Sue

Re: calf aches
Have had the same problem since I was a small child. Used to say they were growing pains, but I am now 60 and have quite stopped growing. Have been diagnosed with restless legs syndrome, but not sure that is true. Still have aching calves, and will still toss at night as the aching keeps me awake. Have never gotten a straight answer but hope you have better luck.

Re: calf aches
That is interesting. When I hear the TV ads for Restless Leg Syndrome, it doesn't sound what like what I am feeling. There's no tingling or cramps, just an ache. I find now that if my legs aren't straight while laying in bed, they will ache. So I do try to keep them straight.
As long as it isn't something serious, I can live with it. No one seems to know what it is.

Re: calf aches
I had very classic restless leg symptoms, but know cramps or tingling either and "requip" solved the problem after the first pill...
Do you have trouble when sitting in an enclosed seat, such as a movie theater? Wanting to keep your legs stretched out, but lack room, so you sort of keep shifting your position? In bed you need to keep your legs straight and then need to rotate your ankle and change the angle of your foot to relieve the pain???RLS for sure
goog luck,

Re: calf aches
Calves can ache due to Potassium insufficiency, so drink some OJ, or eat some raw spinach or whichever. I'd recommend two heavy doses of OJ and see if that helps. That CAN be the first sign of a potassium issue.
RLS is a possiblity, as is DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) so be careful, and take an aspirin 325mg, and wait 20 mins... if it goes away, then you need to be seen ASAP!
Are you experiencing any nausea, vomiting or diarrhea from any of this? If not, you are probably fine with RLS OR That potassium thing. Good Luck!!

Re: calf aches
A calcium/magnesium supplement 500/250 has helped me for years but lately not as well. Placing a soft pillow under my calves in bed seems to help.

Re: calf aches
thyroid hyper/hypo can cause just about any sympttom you can think of docs only go by the tsh test which is only an indication a tpo may be very helpful. you may have to go to an alternative parctichioner for tx as many docs dont know much about thyroid read info onweb about your symptoms and thyroid

Re: calf aches
I also suffer from my legs aching.for the last 15 years. I tried REQUIP and had to quit after just a few days. Requip caused me to not to be able to concentrate. I have taken a Iburprofen at night for years and I am worried about overuse. I do feel that my legs are worse when using birth control pills. Since not taking them is a option, I guess I will deal with the pain.
I am glad that I am reading the same symptoms, that I deal with daily. The aching, throbbing and feeling like I have to pop/crack my joints for relief. If anyone has a remedy, please share and help us.

Re: calf aches
I have had calf pain (more like aching) for the past 5 or 6 years. Only this year did my doctor put me on Elavil, two 10 mgs at night only. Knock wood this is working and I am no longer suffering with the pain.
