Psychosis can occur for some people when quitting cocaine cold turkey, but also same with quitting any hard drug it is mentally, physically and emotionally hard going and any support you can get will make the ride a little easier when the depression sets in (and it will). Quitting is hard but the rewards from getting clean are worth it. Good luck X

also because your body has created a physical dependence on it so by taking it all away at once your body may reject it harder than slowly weening off of it. this way your depression may not be as sever...

Hi. I quit cocaine. I did it cold turkey. I never tried crack I was using powder cocaine. I didn't hallucinate. Not to say people don't. For 3 days I was sick. I did sleep alot which was good. My hair even hurt. I mean every hair on my head. After 3 days i wasn't physically sick, but the mental stuff started. I figured out that my brain had decided if it threw a bad enough temper tantrum I would back down and go score some coke. The mental insanity was so bad I went into a treatment program. I had spent all of my money on coke and had no insurance so I had to wait for a free bed in a program. I found that after 30 days I was scared to leave the "safe" enviornment I was in but it worked out OK in the end. The treatment took and I have been clean for 19 years. Life is good. Hope this helps you some. If you are wooried about hallucinations or your health in general, go to a dr. tell him or her what you are going to do and ask for any advice they can give you. You can also find a freind to stay with you for 2 or 3 days and tell them if if this that or the other happens call 911 no matter what I say. That way you will have a support system and someone to make sure you are OK.

    Thumbs up Re: Cocaine

Man, i dont really have a suggestion- dont take that as discouragement!, but I wanted to post to tell you that I definitely can relate- Im not THAT hooked (although I question whether Im in denial still) but the worse thing..is that when im off it, I dont really want to get started again cuz I know its killing my life and my friends, and I think about all Ive lost but the depression is what drives me to it. Its the hardest thing to overcome. Being SO broke because Ive spent all my money on it, and yet.. i still try to gather as much as possible to get more to get over my stress. Its been a bad cycle. Ive lost both my jobs and I wish you the most luck. I hope that you can be strong. =]

Withdrawal symptoms can be very uncomfortable. They can be alleviated by undergoing a proper medically supervised detox. Detox from cocaine can be complicated and should be undertaken under the supervision of a medical doctor, preferably in a drug rehab with nursing staff. A patient should expect to spend their first week or two in detox. Once they are medically fit they may join program. Programs differ from rehab to rehab but will typically last at least a month and will involve a range of psychotherapeutic activities. This may be followed up with admissions to "secondary care" drug rehabs or graduating to a second phase of program that continue therapy but at a deeper level. Just by the way South Africa has very good rehabs and because their currency is so weak we can afford to go to much better rehabs than we could afford in Europe. you need to see a film called cocaine cowboys lol.....

most cocaine now days is cut with other things, you may be addicted to some of the other products they have cut it with....

My best advice to you would be dont subsitute one drug for another.... as in because your trying to quit the coke dont use anythink else to overcome the addiction, people usually tend to do this...

    good luck
