Itchy, bumpy skin rash on arms and hands
Hi. I have had a rash on my arms and hands for 6 months that no one can figure out. It is itchy, red and bumpy, with peeling skin that sometimes crusts over. Some small rash areas and some blisters (but not fluid filled or anything like that) and I don't seem to be contagious. It was on my back for a while, but this has cleared up. I've seen several doctors and dermatologics and have spent a small fortune on creams, ointments and medication that has been prescribed, but nothing helps. I did go on prednisoze for 2 weeks, and the rash mostly cleared up, but is back again. The docs have done several allergy test and a skin biopsy, but to no avail. Has anyone had this, or does anyone have any ideas? I'm so embarrased to go out in public because it's so unsightly. Thanks so much!

I also have had ( for 2 years) a red, bumpy, itchy, rash in the middle part of my arm (from elbow to wrist) that I went to the doctor about and had a biopsy sent off to UVA and they did not know what it was, then it moved to the upper top side of my hands. I had more test done, they said I was allergic to ...Beef, Dairy, eggs. Recently it left the arm and hand area. I was so happy.............however it has since come out on my lower stomach. The only thing that seems to have any effect on these area's is a steroid cream I had for another reason. It helps for a short time.

Re: Itchy, bumpy skin rash on arms and hands
I have something I think is similar to this, like small blistery things on the palm of my hands..... not sure if that is the same yourself ?
It looks a little like scabies BUT it's not. The can become flakey (very unsightly) I discovered after a thousand and one tests that it's detergent/chemical related.
So I changed dishing washing liquid, shampoo, condition etc and it helps. Just try to eliminate one product at a time and it might give you the answers?
After years of using the same products we can still develop allergies (despite allergy testing showing clear, not always the case) I guess becasue they can't test for everything (our household products !)
Best of luck
Sammy

Laura,
Have you been tested for mites? I had a similar problem years ago and it started with a small rash on my stomach...raised red bumbs and itchy...they also looked like blisters but were not painful and did not have puss like fluid, actually fluid was clear when the bump was broken. It went on for weeks and even months until it spread from my stomach, to my legs and eventually up to my neck! I was embarrassed too but found out I got it from a cat or dog and finally a doctor tested for a microscopic mite and treated me right away....it cleared up after a few weeks...good luck

Re: Itchy, bumpy skin rash on arms and hands
You may have Urticaria is the rash permanent or does it come and go? If it comes and goes when its no there drag a fingernail accross the skin and see if it flares up. sadly there is not medical cure but I have been recieving treatment from a Chinese Herbalist with dramatic results. I have had this condition for 4 years and it flares up at least 5 times a day but with the treatment ive only had 2 flare ups in 2 weeks.Last edited by marygingerwhinger; April 3rd, 2009 at 01:05 PM. Re: Itchy, bumpy skin rash on arms and hands
Sounds like Ezcema to me. My son has this on his legs and really badly on his ankles. His pediatrician gave us this oil called "Derma-Smooth", it is the only thing that has helped him. We put it on every morning and every night after bath and his ezcema has disappeared...I have noticed that if we skip putting it on for whatever reason that the ezcema will start to flare up again. Maybe Derma-Smooth could help you?

Re: Itchy, bumpy skin rash on arms and hands
I had the most irritating rash on the tops of my hands and both forearms for about 4 weeks now. The rash consisted of small bumps and swelled due to irritation as I uncontrolably itched. It is such an intense feeling (especially under hot water) and i tried many lotions, thinking it was just dry skin due to the winter weather. Also, I tried a bacterial lotion but nothing seemed to work. I recently purchased Gold Bond Medicated Body Lotion that contains menthol to stop the itching and it works great! Still don't know the cause of the flare ups and outragous itching but for the past three months I have been trying live a vegan lifestyle. Lately I have introduced dairy and meat back into my diet as I have lost weight, coincedentally the rash started about that time so perhaps it is the meat and dairy?? As I am sure you have heard, be aware of anything different you add to your lifestyle, whether diet, clothing, detergents, lotions, purfumes, soaps and try eliminating it out of your daily routine. Hope this helps and good luck!

Does it get better in the sun away from home? I have similiar and narrowed it down to something in the house I am allergic to but this has not helped me to irradicate the problem even after lots of tests etc if it follows you about its less likely to be mites and more likely to be atophic ecsema or uticaria..if you find a cure let me know anyway!
