Low Platelets, Low white blood count
My sister has been diagnosed through a blood test that she has both symptoms. Suffers from chronic fatigue, and terrible spine pain. Her doctor is an idiot and so I'm asking if anyone is familiar with these symptoms. (I think it sounds like lupus).

Re: Low Platelets, Low white blood count
Thanks for responding. Platelets are in the blood, and provide the ability to form clots. They're kind of sticky and cluster together and prevent severe bleeding. Outside of that, they cluster together and are the basis for bruises.
Normally, I've heard of either low platelets or low white count-I've not heard of someone with both symptoms. That's why I posted.

Low platelets could be a sign of ITP. A friend has this condition, that's why I know....

y I have both these symptoms and have been diagnosed with CVID (common variable immuno deficiency) low white blood cell count and also thrombocytopenia Low platelets i receive weekly infusions of white blood cells and have just received rituximab (mabthera) succesfully treating the platelet count problem you need to see an immunologist to get a diagnosis

Re: Low Platelets, Low white blood count
Regarding the low platelets and low WBC's it could be ITP(idiopatic thrombocytopenia). The other symptoms I am not sure if they fall with ITP. ITP can be caused by a problem with the spleen-sometimes the spleen actually attacks itself and fights off your own supply.I have heard of cases where a spleenectomy have solved the problem but this is a very risky surgery with fatal consequences that can happen.May be a good idea to have the spleen examined. If the platelets are so low they can transfuse immunglobulins.

Not to scare you but have they tested your sister for cancer. I have several family members with cancer and the white cells, platets go all over the place. My father's has terminal cancer and his platelets have dropped right down to 4. Does she have problems with here HGB counts (hemoglobin)
Good luck and all the best

I have chronic ITP where my platelets to to zero at any given time. Like every two years. I had the bone marrow tests done, no cancer. And I was treated with rituxan a infusion that snaps my platelets back in place over 5 - 6 weeks. if you want to talk, my email is malkow@tds.net. I have alot of resources. good luck

Re: Low Platelets, Low white blood count
Hi all i posted before and said that i had both conditions CVID (common Variable immunodeficiency) and idiopathic thrombocytic purpura (low platelet count ) and belong to a society called the PIA primary immunodeficiency Association, they have a discussions forum on their web site and i asked if any one else had the same combination of CVID and ITP, people post from all over the world and several people posted to say they had the same combination. My heamatologist and immunologist have not treated anyone else with this combination but it seems ime not alone although it is very rare but they appear to be linked, if any one would like to know about immunodeficiency they could log on to the PIA website there is a list of signs and symptoms to look out for.

Thank you all for getting back to me. She lives away from me and I will have to call her and talk to her about all you've shared with me. I appreciate all of you!
