I thought I was the only one in the world with this, because when I tell people about this they laugh at me and tell me you're crazy. But now I no that they are crazy from all of you guys post. Thank you for sharing, I am going to take these to my doctor to look at. It hurts in the back of my head, right next to the both of my ears. So again thanks!!!

Re: Pain/Pressure in back of head when I laugh
I have this exact problem, as many others have expressed I don't feel it is something bad because it happens ONLY when laughing and laughing HARD. It feels like the muscles back there are not used to experiencing such tension because we do not laugh very hard all the time. I have not been worried about it but decided to google to see if it was really normal or rare. But alas, still no real answers.

Re: Pain/Pressure in back of head when I laugh
Again, I have found that this was indicative of an Arachnoid Cyst, which can be terribly serious and potentially dangerous if left unfound and/or untreated. I urge you (and anyone concerned) to have an MRI done to rule out a tumor or cyst. I just had brain surgery because of my cyst. Please do not accept the reasoning for this pain as a simple muscle over-usage (or any other suggestion made here or elsewhere) without first knowing it is not something more serious!
Best of luck,
Jennifer

Pain/Pressure in back of head when I laugh
I am going threw the same thing. I was laughing really hard with friends a couple of weeks ago and this pain came on the back of my head. I had to stop laughing in order for it to slowly go away. A few days later it came back, just not as bad but I was also laughing at the time. And now I feel it again but I haven't been laughing at all for it to just come up like that. A little worried on what it may be but I am definitely going to go to the doctors to find out.

Re: Pain/Pressure in back of head when I laugh
The kind of pain you are describing sounds like "exertional headaches." These occur when laughing, coughing, sneezing, or straining to have a b.m. For me, these headaches were a symptom of a Chiari I malformation. An MRI of the head / brain will not be enough to diagnose a Chiari malformation; an MRI of the cervical spine must be ordered.
I wouldn't recommend a chiropractor until you've been to a doctor and had the appropriate tests done, particularly an MRI of the cervical spine.

please keep pestering you doctors for an mri scan. I had unexplained aches and pains just like yours , which started ten years ago, i had a chest infection and the pain was so bad when i coughed i went back to the doctor, I had mri scan and they found out the cause . the doctors didnt know wat it was untill then id had tests for just about every other aliment and by the way most people with tumors dont know theve got them cos they dont feel painfull!

I also have the same headach that you guys have described. I have had a ct scan and a couple of mri's. The best that my neurologist could come up with is that it is a coughing headach. I sure wish I could find a fix for it. When I get a cold and cough or get choked it feels like the back of my head is going to bust open.

Re: Pain/Pressure in back of head when I laugh
me and my sister both get it, its nothing serious it just has to do with the way your jaw works while you laugh, it only happens to some people as everyones head is constructed differantly. its very funny when my sister and i get into fits of laughter (which happens alot)
after about 5 mins were grabbing our heads in pain, which is funnier.
so stress less.

Re: Pain/Pressure in back of head when I laugh
Same thing for me. I get a pain, feels like extreme pressure on the back of my head between the ears near the bumps, just like the photo a few posts above. I only get the pain when I laugh extremely hard. Just noticed it in the last few years. We were plaing laser tag running around and I started laughing real hard. The pain came and I had to stop and hold the back of my head massaging it. It goes away gradually within about 5 or 10 minutes. Pretty much the same as a majority of people on hear. I know its not normal cause my wife never has this pain and we are usually laughing at the same time. She knows when I laugh too hard. She can see the pain in my facial expressions. Anyways I guess I better get checked out as well!!!
