Default swollen lymph nodes in groin

During my husband's recent physical, the physician noticed his groin lymph nodes were swollen. He is in general good health and feels fine. He had blood work done and everything came out normal. He was sent to an infectious disease doctor who told him that he definitely had lymphoma or leukemia and told him to get a bioposy, CT scan and specialized blood work. When we tried making appointments, the infectious disease doctor refused to do a precertification for the CT scan. When he went to the surgeon for the bioposy, the surgeon told him he would probably just watch the glands for a few months, but sent him for the CT scan since the other doctor recommended it. He had the CT scan done, and although we don't have the final report yet, a doctor looked at it and said it seems fine. We are concerned because the infectious disease doctor was so definite that it was lymphoma or leukemia. We would like to know what other reasons there are for swollen lymph nodes. My husband had a ultra sound and it ruled out a hernia. He does use pesticides a few times a year (we have a Christmas Tree farm) but he puts on special clothing and wears a mask. He is a contractor and is around chemicals and sawdust. We are afraid there may be something causing the swollen glands that the tests haven't picked up on and do not want to ignore the problem. Can you help? Thank you

Do you have cats on the farm? Check out "Cat Scratch Disease" on the internet.

I also have undiagnosed lymphnodal swelling and have had similar concerns. The medical community has given several possibilities for the swelling and pain.
If your husband is a contractor, as I am, wear and tear due to heavy work may be the culprit for his lymphnode damage. I also thought I had a hernia, and am attending my Physicians office tomorrow to go over my c-t scan results. Good luck.

I am having the same issues, the left side lymph node in my groin is swollen, although not sore to the touch. In the beginning when I would sit or stand up it hurt like a muscle pull. The right side is swollen now also, but not as much. It's been over a month since I first noticed this was going on. I went to the doctor a few weeks ago and based solely on an exam and some basic questions she diagnosed Cat Scratch and gave me antibiotics. They didn't do anything, and I have another appointment with her on Monday. I'm really beginning to worry now, and I'm beginning to have pains in my left armpit as well, although I can't feel a lump there yet. I feel absolutely fine otherwise. What in the world could this be? Could it be PMS related? The pain seems to get a little worse around that time of the month, although it could just be my anxiety level going up.

Undx'd Lyme disease & co infections can cause lymph swelling . I beilieve it bartonella, that is also known as "cat scratch disease". I am being treated for Lyme now and have a swollen lymph under the left arm. My lyme was undx'd for 20 yrs., and only dx'd after a second tick bite. MAny types of ticks and misquitos carry the bacteria.
Lyme bacterias goes through cycles, abt every 28 days or so. So it can seem like bad pms. There is always the possibility of it being something other than lyme. If you live in the northeast, I would suspect it, although the docs seem to deny it!! Check out this link www.lymenet.org. Do a google search too. Best wishes.

I wonder if someone might be able to help me also. I to have a problem with a swollen lymph node in the left side of my groin. But not far below in my thigh is a rather large and very painful, slightly swollen spot. I saw my doctor yesterday and he says there must be some infection and put me on 500mg of keflex 4x a day. I have been on the antibiotic for more than 24 hrs and the pain is still increasing. I am having much discomfort with walking. Should I just trust my dr and continue the meds or should I be cocerned? I appreciate any input. Thanks

To all posting in this thread...

The standard of care for a swollen lymph glad is to try and antibiotic first. there are several reasons for Lymph nodes to become enlarged, first and foremost is infection. Then there is a whole host of other things such as lymes disease, cat scratch fever, HIV as well as other Immuneo defficencies, Cancer aka lymphoma, Mono aka Epstien Barr syndrome as well as many others. I would the antibiotic first and see where that goes but I would also request that they do some blood work as well.

For those of you that are women there is also a disease out there that is called Dercums Disease that effects women or should I say is more common in women but is also found in men. This is a very rare disease and is not well known by doctors and does go undiagnosed there is also no test for this disease. The reason that I know this is becasue I too suffer from some of the same problems as well as others and the second time that I seen this particular Dr he diagnosed this disease in me or should I say he said that this is what he thinks it is. if you want to see the rest of my story here are the links to my posts:

It's a bit surprising that an infectious disease specialist would tell your husband he had cancer especially when there are many infectious diseases that can cause the problem. If anything go to an oncologist and see what they think. There are tons of reasons lymph nodes can enlarge.
