left side muscle pain and shoulder pain with anxiety
For about three yrs. now I have been suffering from what doctors have told me to be a pinched nerve behind my left shoulder blade. I have anxiety and so when I would get a pain in my left side rib area my mind automatically said, Its a heart attack or something related to that. The doctor did blood work EKG and x-rays, nothing was found, all came back normal. I get bloated and have gas from certain meals, also I was drinking heavily so it made me start to have heartburn which I previously didnt have. I have tried physical therapy, accupuncture, massage therapy and chiropracotors. All have relieved the pain but it keeps coming back and nothing seems to fix it. Medication takes my mind of it so its not worse but thats about it.
Im tired of living my life like this, always thinking the worst when something is not feeling right with my body. A pain in my head is a tumor, a pain in my upper back is my aorta seperating, my chest is a heart attack. Please help me if someone can and give me some advice on how to deal with this or better yet get over it and start living normal! I have stopped working out for fear of getting my heart racing and then thinking something is wrong with it. I dont know what to do....

Re: left side muscle pain and shoulder pain with anxiety
I have also been suffering from what I'm being told is a pinched nerve in the left shoulder blade area and I too am experiencing the same anxiety that you are. Mine has been bothering me for about the past 2 years but within the past month has really gotton worse. Like you I also suffer from a strange feeling under the left rib cage ( feels gassy but sometimes very tight and makes it hard to breathe.) I have become quite nervous about my heart rate as well and generally been experiencing panic attacks and thinking im having a heart attack. The pain in the shoulder feels the worst when I take a deep breath in and sort of feels like it is cutting the full breath short... do you ever experience that? A massouse told me he feels a knot in my back around that area but I have not run this by my dr. yet. Write back when you have time.

Re: left side muscle pain and shoulder pain with anxiety
I've sufferred with this for 30 years. Most times, it happens because of stress. I went to a heart doctor because the pain seems to go from under my shoulder blade all the way to the front of my chest. My cardiologist ran all kinds of tests on me and my heart is fine, but still, you never really know if it is a heart attack or just pain under your shoulder area. The doctor prescribed Xanax for me and this helped a lot. I keep a heavy massager by my bed side and use it everytime the pain hits. It also helps the pain go away. When I first started having this pain, I was 28 years old and in excellent health. My physician told me my muscle was having spasms and I needed to exercise. He said if I did not exercise, the spasms would cut off the blood supply to the muscle and it would die. I haven't had pain in my shoulder blade area in almost a year, but it came back about a week ago and I had to start the Xanax and massage again. Neither seems to be working too well right now, but hopefully it will go away again. I had no idea others were suffering this also. I thought it was just me. The pain goes away for awhile after the massage, but comes back after a little while. Hope you all get better.

Re: left side muscle pain and shoulder pain with anxiety
I get this all the time. Been diagnosed with post-partum panic attacks. Mine usually starts with a tingle/parasthesia feeling just to the left of my spine in my upper back. Then my arm and shoulder begin to hurt. My best advice, keep going to your chiropractor. Your not having a heart attack, it is just anxiety. If you feel better after an adjustment, keep up with it!

Re: left side muscle pain and shoulder pain with anxiety
I feel the same exact way you do about this quote you made "A pain in my head is a tumor, a pain in my upper back is my aorta seperating, my chest is a heart attack." And I have bad anxiety attacks and I can not stand it. I have the heavyness in my shoulder and my left arm feels week. Doctors did blook work and EKG'S and said everything looked ok. But I do have to wear a heart monitor starting next week for 48 hours just to make sure there is no irregular heart beat. But I am wondering if anyone knows why my arm feels like this and what it could be. try not to give me the worst answer lol cause anxiety will kick in. And I DONT want that to happen. Just got over one still a litle shook up about it and still worrying about why my arm feels this way but going to rest and try to take my mind off it. Also I am 21 years old and this is already hitting me. Please Help!

Re: left side muscle pain and shoulder pain with anxiety
there is a thiing called karma,u reap what u sow, and this follows throughout ur natural life. Also, as a man thinkth so is he.
With that said, many times one cures the body and not the soul. the body ailments are only a physical representation of whats in the soul or the inside. Change the mind and u will change the body. What u need to do is analyze how u live ur life. do u love others, do u do on to others as they done to u. Do u have love in ur heart? What have u done for others. A suggestion, do something nice for a stranger, and do it with love, and start a meditation program. Meditation introduces u to urself.

Re: left side muscle pain and shoulder pain with anxiety
I can relate to all of you that have anxiety and pinched nerve. The doctors told me that all my test results were negative. Some days when the pain comes, it get so bad, I don't know what to do. All my test results would come out negative but they don't know what to tell me. If there is anyone out there that knows these symtoms and have answer or recommendation, please give me the answer because I have no clue what to do at this point.

Re: left side muscle pain and shoulder pain with anxiety
Describe your pain in your left scapular region,if that's where it is.There aren't really that many cases of ''pinched''nerves in the shoulder blade area, but the head of a rib can get frozen in place and cause all sorts of back and possibly chest pain.

Re: left side muscle pain and shoulder pain with anxiety
About six years ago I started out with a small "light" stabbing pain in the front lower part of my left side. I tried to ignore it. Maybe a year or so after that it got a little worse and I had an upset stomache. I told my doctor of this and they did some stool tests "yuck!" and found nothing wrong with my digestive sytem. The upset stomache went away, but not the pain. Shortly after this I decided to go to the chiropractor. After six visits he told me I should be better by now, and I wasn't, so I quit going. I now always have a nagging pain in my left side, about where I'd say is the middle of my set of ribs. The other night (when the barometric pressure was high
) I started to feel as though I was having a heart attack. It decided to hurt into my shoulders (worse than most times) and up under my arms towards the front of me (thus believing I may be having a heart attack!). I also have a problem with anxiety...what's going to happen to me today?...What is that I feel now?... But, I found, with excersizing my upper extremities the pain is not so bad. If I do excersizes that keep my arms out straight from my sides or higher for a few minutes before I go to bed that the pain is not so bad the next day. After trying to "look up" what my pain is from for so long and not finding anything that seems to explain it, I decided that, in my own mind, the anxiety I have goes into my shoulders and stiffens me up and therefore affects my side. I decided that if my shoulders are tightening up from anxiety, maybe if I try to loosen them up, then the other muscles that attach to them will also loosen up. I just hope what I have dealt with and the way I am trying to rid myself of the problem will maybe help someone else with the same problem.
