Having trouble walking
I am a 46 year old male that has had walking problems for about the past 6 years. When walking, I stagger slightly as if I've been drinking. Going down stairs is a problem because I start to teeter forward unless there is a rail to hold on to. Standing up is somewhat difficult like I have no muscle although my muscle tone is no less than its ever been. If I stand still, I teeter back and forth like i;m going to fall and I can't balance on one leg. I"ve been through a battery of tests including a CAT scan and a nerve test in my legs with no results. help!!!

Re: Having trouble walking
Muscle mass is not affected. There is no dizziness or vertigo, just a slight lack of balance. There have been a few rare ocasions where I have tripped, but I am able to avoid falling. If I'm walking right next to someone I do have a tendency to bump into them.

Re: Having trouble walking
Although I have experienced some of the symptoms described, The overall condition developed suddenly with no lifestyle changes. Also since this has developed I have moved twice and changed jobs three times. Shouldn't I have noticed changes after these moves?

I believe it`s a neurological problem, you should discuss it with a good specialist

Re: Having trouble walking
Is there any family history of Huntington's disease? The only way to test is via a genetic blood test so even if you had a battery of bloodwork, its highly unlikely they would run this test without consultation first.
Many families would not discuss HD, as it used to be one of those diseases families would keep hush hush. So sometimes a true family history regarding this issue could be hard to get.
You would more then likely be referred to a Neurologist if HD is suspected but even if it isn't HD, a Neuro would be your best bet.
Good luck

Re: Having trouble walking
and I'm a 52 year old female with similar problems and want to understand this too. I've seen 2 specialists who say I should try epidural injections into my lumbar then an operation if that fails then on Thursday I saw a new one, via work, who said he thinks it's neurological and recommended I see a neurosurgeon. I see my GP on monday to ask for a new referral. I've been off work for 2 months when my walking became worse than even and I have to use sticks now as my legs give way without warning.
I just want it sorted as it's been going on for so long now and I'm in a fair amount of pain too. It's so frustrating, I've always been pretty active and do a manual job that I just can't do like this so am worried about losing that too.
Googling this throws up worrying things too so any advice would be very gratefully received as I'm sure it would by all of us!
