Default Unusual circular rash - can anyone offer suggestions as to what it could be?

    Hi.

Does anyone recognise this rash? It appeared on the lower leg and spread over a couple of days to both legs, arms and chest.

    Thanks!

I won't lie to you; it looks horrible. But unfortunently, the only help I can really give you, is to go to a dermatologist, or your doctor. If this is something new to you, then I would suggest you go immediately. Don't wait it out; I know I wouldn't.

It could be a virus, such as syphilis or other. You need a doctor.

This is highly suspect for a Meningococcemia rash and requires immediate attention and evaluation by your primary care physician or specialist.

    Best regards,

Monsterlove, syphylis is not a virus. It is very much bacterial as is Lyme Disease. Lyme rashes have tons of different profiles this COULD be Lyme Disease, but whatever it is... you need to take plenty of pictures and go to a good doctor to document this rash stuff and see if they have ideas. If they can't lead to answers, check back in here. But I totally agree with JCOTTER, MD... go to your doctor ,.. ASAP

It isn't my leg, it's my father's. He's been in hospital since Friday (it appeared on Thursday), but they've just given him paracetamol to lower a slightly elevated temperature. He's awaiting a dermatologist (could be today, could be thursday).

He's had a number of blood tests, which haven't led to a diagnosis. Presumably, they've eliminated some possibilities, but we haven't been told what they are.

He seems absolutely fine other than the rash itself.

Henoch-Schonlein purpura and vasculitis can cause rashes like those.

The current diagnosis is indeed vasculitis, although he's being tested for every ailment known to man

Still, the rash is fading and he appears to be fine (touch wood).

Thanks to all those who responded... really appreciate it.
