episiotomy nightmare
I am desperate for help regarding my horrible episiotomy experience. I gave birth July 7, 2008 and received a third degree tear and episiotomy. I was in extreme pain until my six week appt but thought that must be normal after a delivery. Well, my doctor said I was not healing well at all and had tons of scar tissue growing out of the incision. I had to have an episiotomy revision at 7 weeks postpardom. All was well after this for 2 weeks. Then my incision began to open up again. It was only a small part near the back so my doctor put 3 stitches to close it up and told me to take it easy for a few days, which I did. Those stitches all pulled loose after 3 days but I was told it would be fine and should heal on it's own. Well, now the whole incision is completely open and raw. It is unbelievably painful and I can't get back to the doctor for 2 more days. My doctor has never seen or heard of this before and thinks I need to see a specialist. I have had multiple blood tests which all came back normal. I am 26 years old and in good health. What could be causing my body not to heal? I just want to get better so I can take care of my daughter. Please help.

Re: episiotomy nightmare
Hello,
Well I have good news for you. I am completely healed and doing great. I'm actually newly pregnant with my second child, which is something I thought I would never do again after my nightmare first experience.
After hearing so many times from my regular ob/gyn that I needed to give it more time, I decided to see a doctor at the well known Stanford University Hospital. After he examined me he calmly said "you are going to be fine". I was so relieved! He told me my incision was so severely infected and I needed lots of antibiotics. The skin wasn't able to heal together due to the swelling caused from the infection. How my doctor missed that I will never know. So I was put on Diflucan for yeast infection and Keflex for bacterial infection. I took the Diflucan everyday for 2 months. That tells you how severe the yeast infection was. After being on the antibiotics for a couple of weeks I saw a major improvement. Slowly my incision began to heal, after so long. I finally could see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I gave birth in July and was finally healed completely in April. It was a very long, hard road but I know there was some reason it happened. I am so thankful to have my life back. I do have a significant amount of scar tissue down there but its okay.
I will be having a scheduled c-section with my second baby and am so happy about it! Nothing could be worse than what I went through the first time.
I hope this helps and that you feel better soon. Good luck!
