I suffer STRONG AF (Atrial Fibrillation) and this is a common symptom for me. Can be a little frightening, but usually not a disaster. You're only 34 (wish I were that young again..) so just get it checked out. Does it coincide with alcohol consumption, strenuous activity and stress by the way? Try to define as much data about each episode as you can to give the medico some help.

    Hi
I am 24yrs old and experienced something similar for the first time three yrs ago. It felt like my heart had stopped and I gasped for air, all happened within a few secs, I have had no ends of tests only to be told that it's an ectopic heartbeat where the heart skips a beat and then to compensate the next 2 beats are close together and stronger, scared the **** out of me. I still have them but not as strong they often feel like a bubbling now and i have been told they can be put down to stress and are very common, get checked out anyway to put your mind at rest.

I had the same symptoms for years and took years to get diagnosed. My heart would race so fast it would make me cough or I would get light headed. I went to ER several times and all doctors told me I was stressed. I wasn't. Finally I was diagnosed with Wolf Parkinson White Syndrome. I had ablation surgery on my heart almost 10years ago. It worked for a while but I still have the same symptoms because I also have synus tacacardia. Which just means rapid heart beat. I am on zero medication and have just learned to live with it and fight threw it. To get diagnosed you need to be having the palpatation at the time of he Ecg. Your doctor could have you wear a holtar monitor at home for 24 hours to record your heart beat, you may have no episodes at that time. Whenever you have an attack go to er and get hooked up to get a trace. I know it's stressful to keep going in because they treat you like your nuts. Go anyway until you get it on paper. This condition has been frightening but you do learn to deal with it. You really have no other choice. My only concern is my 13 year old daughter having it. It usually shows up in early teen years. Good luck and don't give up.

When I was a junior in high school I noticed my heart would feel like it was skipping beats. At times it would be hard for me to breath. It felt like I was having a hear attack. I was scared. My mom took me to the doctor but nothing came of it. As i grew older the symptoms continued. Even now that im 26 I still feel these symptoms from time to time. Ive been to several doctor and was presribed beta blockers. They started lower my blood pressure which wasnt high to begin with. I had to stop taking them and basically my doctor told me I have to suffer from it unless i gets real bad. Stress, caffeine and exhaustion being on my symptoms, so basically I had to have a life style change to reduce my symptoms.

    Hi Heather,
That is really scary. I am 26 and all my life i've had an irregular heartbeat (slowing, speeding up, straining, etc. for no reason) In 3 days I'm going to see a cardiologist about those symptoms as well as the "missing beats". The missing beats usually occur when i'm resting but very rarely do they hurt. Sometimes my heart "sputters" for a second or two but even then, it just feels numb kind-of. My meger recomendation is that you see a specialist; if it's nothing, you can live without fear- if it's something, the heart is not an organ that should be ignored. Good luck and God bless.

Sounds all too familiar! I coded during a colonoscopy ... found out that my "mitral valve prolapse" was actually Wolfe Parkinson White Syndrome (WPWS). Colonoscopy pretty much "saved my life" because had I been at home doctors said I would have never made it to the phone. Very serious and can be hereditary. Many people don't know they have it until it's too late.

This is not to be a scare tactic, but if your heart is not beating normally, you'll definitely want to get it checked out. I had racing heartbeats for years. Went to the doctor several times. Was diagnosed with MVprolapse and was told to just live with it. I was told it's normal ... that so many women have the same thing. (NOTE: if you have MVP you need to let your dentist know, along with any physician doing any kind of invasive procedure).

You need to have peace of mind ... to know if it's something "normal" and you are aware of it and know how to deal with it or if there's an underlying condition.

My surgery for WPWS took care of the heart condition - an insurance nightmare until 10 years pass, btw. However, my heart still races. Trust me, it gets my attention everytime.

My suggestion is if you are concerned enough to type it here, you should go and TELL IT until someone listens to you. Some doctors may sluff it off, others might listen right away. YOU need to pursue this until YOU are comfortable with what you find out.

IMO, no game playing with the heart.

Hope this isn't too forward or harsh, but I take matters of the heart very seriously. I was 29 with a 13 month old when I was given a second chance at Life.

I have a similar problem and I have to take antibiotics before I have an dental procedures so my blood doesn't get infected or something and makes my heart all weird.
