I have been on the Nuva Ring since Jan.2005. I stopped the ring at the end of my last cycle, since my husband and I are ttc. I took the ring out at the end of my cycle on 7/13 and got my period on 7/16 as planned. This lasted one day less than normal.

For the past few days, 3 weeks after removal, I have had extremely sore nipples and off and on aching/cramping. I have headaches and am tired throughout the day. The sore nipples have never happened to me before, and so I was curious as to if that were a pregnancy sign, or what... it seems like this is normal for people once they come off the nuva ring.
I also have many other signs of early pregnancy, but so have others who have come off the ring...

I am hoping that since the sore nipples started 3 weeks after removal of the ring, that maybe its a sign of early pregnancy, since it didnt happen right after removal? I dont want to get my hopes up here...

Anyhow, i will keep posting any changes. Due for period on 8/13. Hopefully my cycle will regulate and I wont be waiting months to get it!!!
    UPDATE:

Well I am the same boat as everyone else. Your cycle is off after getting your last regular period with the nuva ring. I should have gotten it yesterday and its still not here. Not any signs, and a negative prego test. The only good thing is that my symptoms after stopping ti went away last week finally.
So, now my cycle is off like everyone else and who knows when I will get it and when I will ovulate?! I will keep you posted.

Lightbulb Re: Pregnancy Symptom after Nuvaring

I only used the ring for a month and it's not been quite a month since i've been off it. I've been thinking I've gotta be pregnant since my belly is HUGE and bloated, I am crampy, I spot, I have leg cramps, I absolutely cannot sleep for days now (way beyond normal restlessness), I have disturbing vivid dreams, sore boobs, lower back pain, and very naseaus... after reading all of what you gals had to say, perhaps I can stop sweating it. I'm very curious what my expected period will be like, and how LONG is it going to take to regain control over my body? I had almost IMMEDIATE issues with the ring as far as mood swings go (within a couple hours and it didn't stop til the ring was OUT)... but then other things were going on and I said... no no it's this... or that... just giving the ring a fair shot... I was on my last day before the ring was to come out and started feeling this huge relief come over me... as if the aliens who'd abducted my soul were now returning it to it's rightful place... and within hours of the ring being removed... I was almost in tears of joy because I felt "normal" (well normal for me lol) again. I was advised this was a "low dose" hormone and didn't sweat trying it out... I had in the past done the Depo shot and was terribly effected by that so anything hormonal was a big leap for me. This was a disappointment because everything I experienced goes against everything the medical professional who prescribed it to me had relayed to me. She insisted there was no possible way that the mood swings and other symptoms could be attributed to the ring. Well la dee da... I beg to differ. If you want to know the truth about anything... don't ask your doctor! And if you think that getting on the Nuva Ring will be the way to go because you have trouble with hormonal BC... think again. I'm off the ring... and one question remains... When can I have my body back? Dang... I was only on it for a month!!!

I am SO very glad I found this site. Like a few of you, I've been searching online for weeks for this information. I'd been using the ring for four years straight. On July 18 this year I took my ring out as scheduled (per my NuvaRing desktop reminder), and never put one back in, as my husband and I are ttc. Since being on the ring, my periods have usually been like clockwork: Friday out, Monday start, 5 days max. I started my period July 17, four days early, but kept my ring in until the 18th anyway. My first period after the ring was 6 days long with painful cramping towards the end. On July 29, to my surprise, I started my period again. It was very light. On August 8th I started light bleeding again, and on Monday August 11 I started the heaviest bleeding I can recall, and very painful cramping bloating. That period lasted 8 days. I started logging my symptoms after that, and according to the software I'm using my most fertile day was August 17. August 24th I noticed some browninsh spotting. I'm thinking, no way, not again; and it's too soon for a pregnancy symptom. That night my breasts became incredibly sore and it hurt even to move. A couple of days later my nipples were sore and tingly. One morning I had lightning cramps on my left side for a few seconds, and then the dull ache that usually comes with a period took over for the next few days, and I felt slightly sick. Having never experienced anything like this, and with the sore breasts, nipple, and tummy upset, I did what any girl might do, and took a hpt on Friday. since my next period was supposed to be four days away I thought the hormone might show up at this early date. Negative. With my cycles being all over the place, I really can't tell when - or if - I've ovulated, and I thought better to be safe. The spotting was back as of Friday evening through today, red this time. Usually a frisky person, my interest has slowly dwindled over the past month. I became pregnant with my first child two weeks after being off the pill (he was a surprise!), so I thought it might be just as easy this time. I'm 31 years old and in good health, but my body is taking a serious hit. I can't remember ever being so uncomfortable for so long! I thought about calling my doctor during this, my fourth period since July 17, but after reading these posts I think I'll just wait it out. There is probably nothing she can do. Thank you so much for posting your thoughts and experiences!

Wow is right. I've been on the Nuvaring for about two and a half years. I was starting to get frustrated with the Ring (slipping out, infections - you name it). I went off of it in July. I had a normal period in August. In fact, it came exactly 29 days into my cycle. I thought my body had regulated itself because it came on time (and much less painful - but it lasted over 7 days). Anyway, I should've gotten my period on September 5 (that would make it 29 days after the first day of my period). It's Sept. 10 ... no period. My boyfriend and I have been having sex with condoms. Could one have broke? I've had no signs of pregnancy or bloating. No frequent urination, headaches, bloating. I have had some minor cramping. I've asked him, no breakage that he knew of. I'm confused. Is my cycle still changing, even with one normal period? Has anyone else gone through this? Help!!

    Hi there,

I'm having a similar issue, so try not to stress about it too much. I think everybody is different and, off the birth control, our bodies take some time to adjust. I'm 32 and had been on the NuvaRing for about 4 years. I went off of it back in March because my husband and I decided to start TTC. My first period came close to when I expected, but lasted for two weeks. For the next few months, my period was predictable--it came every 29 to 30 days and lasted for about 7 days. Last month, we decided to put TTC on hold for a few months because I was going through a busy time with work and grad school, so we've been using back-up protection (I did not go back on BC). This past month has been my strangest cycle yet. I was two days late, very lightly spotted for 3 days, and then woke up this morning to nothing. I thought I might be pregnant and experiencing implantation bleeding, even though we had been careful, so I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. I was very stressed out this past week--I completed a big project at work, made a wedding cake, had a grad school project, and had an issue come up with one of our dogs, so I'm attributing the strange cycle to having a lot on my plate and being more stressed out than usual.

I will say that the most difficult part of getting of birth control for me has been the terrible teenage acne coming back, the longer, more painful periods, and my new mood swings that seem to come when I'm PMSing. My poor husband has been quite the trooper because I find myself more "hormonal" off the NuvaRing than when I was on it.

If it would give you piece of mind, take a pregnancy test. They are pricey, but it's worth every penny if it will keep you from worrying too much.

Thanks for the feedback. I took a pregnancy test shortly after I posted that comment. I took a test on Wednesday night (only to take the stress off of my boyfriend and I) ... the test was negative. To be even more accurate, I took another test the next morning (with my first urination) ... again, negative. The next day I spotted a bit (looked like implantation bleeding - brownish color) However, still (today) no period. Could I still be pregnant? I have been feeling sick lately and feel as if I've been moody. Thoughts on this one? Should I take another test to make sure?

Red face Re: Pregnancy Symptom after Nuvaring

I just came off the NuvaRing today-mainly b/c I have no sex drive and ever since I started the Ring I have had terrible mood swings and am worried about our family's relationships due to my attitude! I have been experiencing sever body aches-neck, lower back, and terrible abdominal cramps. So, I am curious as to what I will go through for coming off of the Ring-i only was on 3 months...my son is 13 months old and we hope to start trying for # 3 in a couple months-i had an ectopic pregnancy about 3 months ago-which made me try nuvaring! Please reply with any thoughts! Thanks

I am going throught the same thing EXACTLY!!!! I took the ring out in Aug on the 11th and had my period (normal) about 1 or 2 weeks later I spotted (like implantation bleeding) for about 1 day. I feel pregnant!!! Tests say negative. Im still waiting. My friend went through the same exact senario with coming off the ring. She kept taking hpt's all said neg. she went to the dr they said neg. she waited about a few days or a week took another hpt POSITIVE!! went back to the dr, they said they couldnt believe it, she had been pregnant the whole time!! It took her period being 2 weeks late for the test to show positive... Has anyone out there gone through this and ended up being pregnant?

Hey ladies, I'm so glad you're all out here to talk to. I have been off the Nuvaring since Dec 07, and it's currently Sept 19, 2008. I was on the Nuvaring for about 6 months. I really didn't have problems during that time, but I stopped using it because I was getting married in May and we wanted to start TTC as soon as possible and I didn’t want to have any troubles TTC. So my cycle has been here every month since, always on 27 to 28 days from my last period, but only 3 days long, when on the Nuvaring and before on BC it was 4 to 5 days. But since June 08 I have experienced pregnancy signs, tender beast, upset stomach, first. Then in mid August came not fitting into any of my closes, size 8 now in 10's and haven’t gained a pound. Now, I have had a headache every day this week, by 9:00pm I cant every stay awake. Last month my period was only 3 days following 4 days of brown discharge, I started again this month on time to only have a day and a half of spotting to medium back to spotting period. I'm going to the doctor next month, the 8th, but as sure as I feel pregnant, I now think it maybe all from this Nuvaring. Is any one else like this??

    Thanks for the help!!
