    Question Our Annoying Little Problem

Okay, ladies and gents, since we have no real diagnosis, nor certain cause, or even knowledge of what particular piece of our anatomy is creating this sensation, we ought to get a little more organized.

How about this> I'll put some questions down and answer them myself. Im gonna try to focus on what our similarities might be. Try to stick to the facts, leaving out subjective comments for another post. I hope others will answer these questions as well and add some of their own. I will edit my own post to add new questions that seem relevant.

I hope some of you will participate
    thank you

    Dr. John

    1. Symptom?: Tingling sensation in ear. Seems to be in the inner ear. It's like a tickling itch that you want to scratch, but as soon as I stop rubbing my ear, it is there again (never left).

    2. Which Ear, or Both?: Right ear only

    3. Is It Constant, Cyclical, or Come and Go Randomly?: Seems to come and go sometimes, but is often very apparent in the morning.

    4. What ear do you place on the pillow while sleeping (majority)?: The right

    5. How long has the sensation been apparent?: Aprox. 1 month

    6. Do you recall this issue ever coming up before?: I think that I have felt this before, but I have never really researched it and I do not recall exactly.

    7. Male or Female?: Male

    8. Age?: 30

I'm having the same problem and never thought about it being associated with the mouth or jaw. Now that I think about it the problem started around the time I got braces. Maybe there is some relation there. I hope it goes away after the braces are removed, it's so annoying!

I know how everyone feels, I'm ready to rip my ear off already, I have only had this chronically since July. It got so bad and I had an accompaning headache which was getting worse and tenderness to the scalp, thus I went to the Emergency Dept and they thought it was Temporal Arteritis but the blood test was negative, no biopsy of the artery was done (although it is recommended) I also had banged my head quite hard prior to the buggy feeling in my ear and a CT was done of the head (brain) all clear. Upon talking to a Dentist friend of mine he suggested they do an MRI of the ear and jaw. I do have TMJ problems and have been to a chiroprator for the last 8 weeks twice a week and there is no improvement with the buggy feeling. I then made an appointment with my ENT and all he did was stick the whatever he uses in me ear and said it looks fine and did a hearing test which is fine. Today I tried the web site Just Answer where you ask a medical question and a specialist replies they do ask for a fee but its up to you if you like the answer and want to pay for it. They suggested to try a decongestant so I went to the pharmacy and are now trying extra strength decongestant, I have only taken 2 doses, so I will update if this helps.

I want you all to know I am in the exact same boat you all are but have not worked as diligently to get a diagnosis, it has only recently been bothering me all the time. I will be staying up to date with this blog and if I can offer any insight about my situation I certainly will. Thank you for discussing this.

    Hello,

I've had the same feeling of something crawling in your ear.. it's so itchy it drives me nuts some days. I've had it for 1 year and it's random. I can date it back to when I started training for a triathlon, before then I hadn't really spent time in a pool for years.

It kind of went away for a while but came back with evengence after I swam in a pool (it had been raining heavily the night before so prob not very clean). I found this link and think I have swimmers ear:

    http://healthguide.howstuffworks.com...dictionary.htm

I'm going to get some eardrops (ask for eardrops for swimmers ears at chemist) and maybe even candling if needed. Temporary releif can be found in a warm heatpack to the ear... mmm very soothing!! But it does warn that you should take action to get rid of the infection because if you leave it, it can lead to worse infections.

I hope this helps some of you

I'll report back if this works... take care and try not to stick your fingers in to itch or stick cotton buds in your ears.. this supposidly makes the infection worse.

I just returned from Iraq two months ago, and ever since coming back I have had the same problem. It's been getting increasingly constant and I am considering going to the doctor, but it seems like from everyone else's experience that such action would do me absolutely no good. I just saw the doctor last week about some foot issues, and wouldn't want to seem like I'm trying to milk my tricare benefits... Maybe I'll give it a bit more time and see if anyone finds out anything new.

I have the same feeling, it's like a flea walking on the hairs in my ear canal. This just started happening and I believe it has to do with my new gum chewing habit. I recently stopped chewing tobacco and have replaced it with chewing gum. I find myself chewing gum hours on end and vigorously, this may have something to do with it.

    Symptom: Tingling/crawling

    Both ears.

    Comes and goes.

Place both ears on pillow - turn from side to side during night.

Have had this problem for at least 2 years.

I don't recall it occuring prior to that.

    I am female.

    I have tmj problems.

    My age is 52.
