Default Re: Weirdest pain in my left front thigh

I had posted this in another thread but found this thread so thought I would post it here too since some of you seem to have sort of the same symptoms...

It has been about 11 weeks now that I have had this pain in my lower back and upper right thigh. The thigh feeling is sometimes an ache, sometimes it burns and sometimes it tingles. I went to my general practitioner 2 weeks after it started. She had me tested for Lyme disease again (I was diagnosed 9/06) The bloodwork came back negative. Sed rate bloodwork all came back normal too. Was sent to an infectious disease specialist and he too said no Lyme disease. I sure hope it isn't Lyme disease but I am not so sure why he dismissed that so quickly. He said maybe its a herniated disc and prescribed an MRI...which was denied by my insurance company (which infuriates me, but that is another story). They said I have to try ice, heat, NSAIDS and physical therapy for 6-8 weeks before they will allow an MRI. Have tried the first three with no luck. May be trying the PT after I am back from vacation in a couple weeks. I just don't know where to go from here. It isn't what I would call painful and has not kept me from doing the things I enjoy...but I have become very depressed because I just don't know what is wrong...and I am fearing that it could be something serious. I am thinking that on the positive side I do seem to feel better in the morning. And if I am sitting or standing for long periods of time the symptoms are worse. Funny thing is, I hiked for 3 hours the other day and walked for over an hour the day before that and felt quite good (no back aching or leg tingling).

Thanks for reading and I would appreciate any thoughts.

I had pain in the upper left thigh.. it turned out to be a blood clot - inflammation of the blood vessel......I hit it against the table and it was extremely painful...pain spread outward from a spot on the thigh about the size of a quarter....told me to go to bed and was given some blood thinner... not a lot but enough

I'm sorry that you are in pain. I am too and therefore did some research. I haven't yet found what sounds like my symptoms, but I did find something that may explain yours. It could be Malargia Paresthetica also known as "lateral femeral nerve entrapment". You can read more about it here or just enter the name into google. http://www.emedicine.com/orthoped/to...ve_entrapments I hope this helps you.

My son was born by cesarean 5 months ago. During the surgery there were a few problems with my breathing and CPR was administered. For three weeks following the surgery my right leg went limp or numb and I struggled to walk dragging it. The antiflamitories I was given a week after the surgery lessoned these symptoms considerably. Now 5 months later I am getting these sparatic, verticle, sharp pains that affect the same spot each time on my right outer thigh. Honestly these pains feel like a pulled muscle that is also being saverely burned by a hot curling iron.

The area affected is now also beginning to feel numb with very little feeling (no pins and needles yet), I have not pulled anything to my knowledge.
The pain is becoming more freaquent affecting my sleep and walks causing me to scream out in pain and the sensation last only a minute or two.

Could this be damaged nerves resulting from my surgery or simply a pinched nerve?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have pain every morning in my front upper thighs. It usually lasts for about an hour It is getting worst every day. I think the best thing to do is to stop self-diagnosing and see a doctor. Pardon the cliche' " It's better to be safe than sorry."

I realize this thread is older, but I just had a tumor removed from my kidney less than one month ago, and now I am noticing more and more that my leg has a burning/icy sensation that starts at the top of my leg on the side of the surgery and creeps down to my knee...it wakes me up and I have to rub it to make it feel better...any guesses?

Cool Re: Weirdest pain in my left front thigh

I had this pain in the outer left thigh. It was obviously a nerve pain due to the searing hot lightning bolt pain, but my back seemed fine.

It originally occurred while doing lunge exercises at the gym with a trainer.

I did a lot of research on it and discovered it is the anterolateral cutaneous nerve, which is a purely sensory nerve, so there is no muscle atrophy. That was good news. The point of impingment of the nerve is up much higher than the pain occurs.

But I was never more than 15 lbs overweight, and didn't wear tight clothes. I did sit for my work, and this made it worse. Wearing belts can cause it, so I didn't wear them. Tried to keep clothing loose.

I finally found out it could come from having a mass in the abdomen, such as an ovarian cyst. I didn't seem to have any problems like that.

The answer came when I prepared for my first colonoscopy. Took the prep, cleaned out my abdomen, and the pain and most of the numbness disappeared. Colonoscopy revealed a twisted colon and antidepressants were causing severe constipation, and the sigmoid colon was actually pressing on the nerve and causing all my problems.

MiraLax keeps the problem away. A problem I had for 15 years.

I had left rotator cuff surgery and was recently forced to sleep, in my brace for six weeks -- on my back every night. Laying on my back caused my left thigh to cramp up crazy so that the pain was nearly unbearable -- like someone was burning my thigh -- just as if I had lost circulation in my thigh or a nerve was pinched somewhere causing the pain to wreak havoc on my thigh until I'd cautiously roll to my side and the thigh's torturing pain ended.

    I'm female, 39, 290 lbs, non-smoker, no diabetes, L-5 S1 discectomy/laminectomy in 2002, skater.

I know this is an old post but these symptoms are familiar to me.

I wake in the middle of the night screaming from a burning searing pain in my upper leg. Sometimes it is in both legs. The pain changes. It still hurts but it's numb. I know this doesn't make sense but that's how it feels. It's completely different than the way a charlie horse feels. There is also some vaginal pain occasionally and some lower back pain. It is starting to get worse, more frequent and covering a larger area.

    Sciatica? Spondylosis? MS?

I am in my mid-40's. I haven't gone to a Dr. but am thinking seriously about going. I haven't gone because I don't think a Dr. will take my complaints seriously and I worry about not finding out what is wrong.

    Anyone else have these symptoms?

I feel a little bit alone.

    Hello, my name is Marc.

    I am 31, 5'10" 185lbs.
I have lower back problems, worn thin discs, some curvature of the spine, and also a tilted/shifted pelvis as well.

Last night, I woke up in the middle of the night and suddenly sat up in bed.
Im not sure why I woke up, but immediately...

I had this very very very painful BURNING and spasm like pain starting in my groin area and going down THE INNER FRONT OF BOTH THIGHS to my knees. It was so severe the pain, that I was considering calling 911. I was paralized and couldn't move. I tried laying down, then sitting up, then I finally got moved to where I was sitting up on the edge of the bed.

This lasted about 10 minutes, and I also realized that my legs were numb to touch the skin.
Once again this is a HOT HOT BURNING PAIN, from the groin to the knees, BOTH LEGS
more painful and different than anything I have ever felt before.

Once I was positioned sitting on the edge of the bed, trying not to scream. I was trying different things to try to ease the pain. Finally, I started massaging my numb thigs and worked my way down to the BACK SIDE of my KNEE and was rubbing behind my knees
    and the pain instantly stopped.

I felt lightheaded, weak and faint. I sat there for a while, scared to move. I kept rubbing my upper legs. The pain lasted about 10 minutes. About 10-15 mintues later I started feeling normal again. I layed back down in bed, and go online with my cell phone to see what could have caused this.

So far I have looked up the possible cause being:
    1. Pinched nerve in the pelvis illiac area caused by wearing tight clothing,
which I did that day proir. I had on a tight back brace while riding dirt bikes.
    2. Shifted pelvis causing nerve pinching.
3 Opiate pain meds side effects (which I do take, 20mg methadone, 30mg Oxycodone daily)
    4. Genital Herpes

I don't know what is wrong, but I don't wish this
pain on my worse enemy. It was horrible to the point where I almost passed out...
and I can handle pain. This was FIRE or ICE (you pick) BURNING down the thighs.

    What should I do?
