Default Haven't gone poop in 3-4 days.

I don't feel any pain. In fact I don't feel anything, ever! I have to try for 40 minutes to over an hour every time. My abdominal region is always blotted and hard. What is this? I have always had it ever since I was a child. I am 18 and this shouldn't be happening.

You have probably always been constipated and have stretched out your colon. Do you have leakage of stool? Try cleaning yourself out with milk of magnesia or some magnesium citrate take 10oz of magnesium citrate and only drink clear liquids while taking it. If you don't have results in 24 hours take another 10 ozs. If that doesn't do it go see a gastroenterologist. If you do get cleaned out, take milk of magnesia every day adjusting the dosage so you have a soft bowel movement everyday. At least that is what my doctor told me and it has worked. It sounds like this has been a life long problem so remember you will probably have to keep it up for most of your life. Maybe not if your colon can go back to it's normal size but that will take awhile.

Whatever you do- don't strain, you don't want to cause hemorrhoids.
Drink lots of water every day,and eat dry stewed plums.

A good trick is massaging the knees while seating on the toilet.

Also, get a little stool to put in front of the toilet so you can put your feet up. This simulates a squatting position, which is how millions of people eliminate daily in Asia. Squatting is a more natural position for elimination (wish we had squatter toilets in the US) as it enables gravity to do most of the work for you.

I have the same problem. Sometimes I go a week or two at a time without pooping. I then get excrutiating cramps. My doctor says it could be irritable bowel syndrome but I've never actually been diagnosed. Taking fiber should help. You can get a pill form if you don't like the chalky mixes.

    Hello~
This is a similar problem I am dealing with, (and I was always very regular/ solid).
Without more information from you, (such as other symptoms, info about your diet, etc.); it's hard to guess at what may be wrong with you, let alone what to do about it.
Do you eat a high fiber diet? Are you eating enough raw veggies? Any food allergies? On any medications?
Straining can also cause renal failure- (failure of the kidneys).
Don't wait until it gets this bad- go see a gastronologist.
Maintain a healthy lifestyle free form chemicals/ toxins... household cleaners, make-up, paints...many of these 'common' things can cause serious problems.
Around any ill persons or any pets/ animals?
What about current or previous injuries, abuse, or exposure to asbestos, lead, radon, or bad water or food?
It sounds like you could have serious trouble expelling toxins from your body. This can strain and ruin your intestines, pancreas, kidneys, bladder, liver, etc.
Please seek professional help, and send further info.Thanx.

Ok that made me chuckle about the squatter post. I have a 8yr old son who squats on the toilet, when he was younger his older brother told him there were snakes in the toilet and no matter what we tell him he refuses to sit on the toilet. Ok back to the subject I have problems going to the bathroom forever, I am 41 I would get the cramping and hours and hours of trying. for the past few years drinking coffee every day would work. But the past few weeks probably because of medication for cholesterol I cant go for days. I think I am going to try the milk of magnesium. My niece who is 21 has the same problem and said she would be in alot of pain. I said welcome to my world. she went to a specialist who also said IBS. I had went to a doctor and mentioned it and he said oh thats just another name when doctors dont know what is wrong. alot of help he was not

As a dietitian, I had serious constipation for many years, ate loads of fibre and got no benefits until I started excluding wheat totally from my diet - excluded wholemeal bread, bran fibre and all other sources of wheat and then relied on vegetable and fruit fibres instead. Constipation solved almost overnight. The other thing I found exacerbated my constipation was Codeine so I avoid this as well. Bowel movements now soft and easy. best wishes Teddy

My mom several times had impacted bowel from constipated and not going. It got so big they wantd to operate. Luckily a proctologist worked with her and had to go up and try to break some of it up manually. Sound gross but saved her from surgery and then followed with stool softeners. Very painful and dangerous too. It can be serious and I never knew that till it happened to her.
