    Unhappy Burning Skin Sensation

My husband is 47 years old and within the last 3 weeks he has started having an intense burning sensation across the skin of his upper abdomin. It is also located running vertically down the sides of his back. He went to the doctor yesterday and they told him they don't know what's wrong and he should see a neurologist. He is in extreme pain and it's highly sensitive to the touch. It bothers him just to wear a shirt. He has no rashes on his body - it just burns. Has anyone else experienced this issue.

I Recently Changed Doctors, And Had Tests After Tests With Really No Answers. The X-rays On My Back Showed An Old Fracture Of My Upper Back(that I Can't Recall Ever Recieving). He's Sending Me To Have A Bone Density Test, Seems To Think I Have Osteoperrosis.when You Hurt This Bad And No-one Seems To Know What Is Wrong It Is So Frustrating. Sometimes The Pain Gets So Bad, It Makes Me Feel Sick. I Have Been Doing Some Digging On The Net And With The Burning I Have And Some Other Problems I Have I Have A Lot Of The Same Characteristics Of Ms. Don't Give Up You Need To Pursue This Cause It Does Happen And There Has To Be Answers Somewhere Out There.

Well he went to the neurologist and they ordered blood tests and an MRI which I am sure all will come back negative. I'll update this site to let you all know what the results are for this burning skin problem. In the meantime, if you find out anything, please be sure to post an update. Thanks

All of his symptoms match a disease called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. You are in the right place going to a neurologist; he should be able to start your husband on medication.

    I hope this helps,

I've had the same burning and skin problem. With it, within the last few years also had Major Hay Fever and stomach pain. I'm confuse with the what I may have, but I am very sure its either MRSA or Lyme Disease. These are two major medical issues Doctors are aware and insurance company play the of making them ignore them because of the cost for Lab test. Push for your doctor to test you on both. They are real bad bacteria problems that can damage your nerve system and even give you liver problems

Default Re: Burning Skin Sensation: Cleveland Clinic: Viral INfection

A few months ago my brother had experienced traveling burning sensations in different locations in his skin. Throughout a 3 month period he had several doctors run several blood test, 6 MRI, exrays etc. Eventually they placed him the Cleveland Clinic, and they could not diagnose him. At the end of his dilemma, he was told by the expert doctors that because they could not find anything else wrong with him, that it most likely is the cause of a viral infection that is located in the spine or the brain and will run its course and go away. After 3.5 months the symptoms have all gone away.
Now a few months later, I am experiencing the same thing. I am not located anywhere near him. We are several states apart, and I have only had contact with him in August last year for a few hours. And no one that lives or works with him has it either.
My pain started in the front of both thighs. I thought I overexposed myself to chlorine at the Y. The burned so bad that I could not walk from my pants touching my skin! The left leg stopped burning after 1 week, but the right continued for 2 weeks. The legs stopped burning, and then I got the same thing in my right groin. It hurt so bad that I could not wear underwear! It spread to my inner upper thigh, and lower abdomen. I felt on fire! Then, 2 days later, because I ws not comfortable sitting in my easy chair from my groin and abdomin area, I kind of turned and felt a sudden surge of burning pain on the upper right buttock/side hip. That was 2 weeks ago.
The main symptoms are that I cannot touch my skin from the on fire burning, I cannot stand clothing rubbing against me, the covers pull along my hip at night, so I am exhausted. TAking a shower is out of this world painful if the water stings it! And really painful is when i shivver from a little chill in the air, like while walking to another room, the skin stands up and catches fire! There is no redness, no swelling, and no rash.
It has been a full 2 weeks, and the last areas have not let up.
I thought if I called my brother he would think I was having sympathy pain, or that I was psychotic, or that is hereditary, and it would cause our set of 6 siblings to panic! All of us are in our 50's now! But after nearly 5 weeks now, I gave in. He had me describe the pain, the way it moves, how it feels, how long they are lasting. I did not know the details of his experience, just that he was going through tests for a burning sensation that moved through his body.
He told me that our symptom are very similar. I knew things that only we could know by experiencing it! Like the getting out of a chair and the suddenly flaming of the skin that I am now calling a "hot spot".
He told me that his started in his thighs, stayed about 2 weeks, then he got a new one on his abdomen and it went around to his lower back, then to his arm, then to his head. He said that sometimes you get more than one area at a time, they vary in how long they last, and sometimes they repeat in areas that were already gone. Some spots ease out, while others are really intense at different times of the day.
We are both in our 50's and has occurred 4 states apart. But I don't believe it is hereditary.
He started this in Sept 07, and has been fine since Jan 08.
I do think it is viral by the sounds of so many others having the same symptoms.
I believe that it must therefore be traveling through humans.
So I am going to ride it out for a few more months and see if like my brothers, it just goes away.
He warns me that if it does get worse, and I don't know how it could, I should go in, and he has been instructed by the experts at the Cleveland Clinic to return if it did not go away within a few months, or if after the symptoms stop, if they return.
But the Cleveland Clinic really felt strong that it was a Viral Infection that runs through the spine and or the brain and given the time to runs its course, like all viruses, will eventually leave the body.
    Good Luck to you all.

Had the same thing. Burning, like someone was holding a match on my outer thighs. Was diagnosed with SHINGLES. Took Zilactin and used cream on area and never had it occur since 4 years ago.
