Itchy Scalp, No Lice, Not Dandruff...?
For the past week or two, I have experienced itchiness on my entire scalp. I'm 15, so I still have all my hair. I have been checked multiple times for lice, and I know it's not dandruff because I have been using dandruff shampoo that has helped in the past with no result this time. My parents say that my scalp is pink, but notice no bumps or blisters. After itching, it sort of hurts and sometimes I feel very small bumps around my hairline on my forehead, but don't notice them very much on the rest of my scalp, probably because my hair it too thick. Any suggestions are welcome, thanks!

You should see your doctor and get a referral to a dermatologist if they can not diagnose it themselves although it sounds like psoriasis or dermatitis of the scalp - Seborrheic dermatitis

In saying this no one can better diagnose an issue than a health proffesional - for skin disorders a dermatologist is best but GPs would be fairly good at these type of disorders.

Has anyone checked to see if it is dermatitis or folliculitis?

Sometimes dandruff shampoo totally dries out the scalp and causes more itching. Try a shampoo that is FOR dry hair to give you some moisture back in your scalp.

OMG I have the same thing you do, no lice or dandruff! cept im 14. My doctor said to try selsom blu or head and shoulders, but they dont work very much. I wash my hair every night so I'm guessing its just the dryness. I know it itches like crazy, and at first I thought it was lice but I was check so many times, and there wasnt any.

Same here I tried head and shoulders but it doesn't work My docter said it was probely cause I had a reaction to my shampoo that I had used before. But if it isn't that go to pharmacy and ask for essential hair oil, I tried some 1hour ago and it really relieves the itcheness.

I'm 40 and I have this itchiness too. No lice, no dandruff as well. I went to my doctor last month and he checked me out and found nothing as well. He did say my blood pressure was up and I am a little stressed out, both could cause some itchiness. I have a dermatologist appointment for May - as soon as I could get in to see her - if it doesn't stop before then I think I may go crazy itching! Dandruff shampoo DOES NOT work and either does selsum blue, that stuff is just nasty. I have eczema on my hands and I even took my cream for that and rubbed it on my scalp but got no relief. It wakes me up at night and if I sit in a chair with a high back I get itchy where my head has touched the chair. I'm going nuts with the itchy, so I feel your pain! A friend says to try cold tea as a rinse after washing your hair and I am so desperate I will try anything!

Oh man am I ever happy to see this thread. My head started itching last weekend. Kinda like pins and needles or prickly crawling. I thought "Oh god no not lice!!" I have checked my head several times and I see nothing...at all! Aside from the normal few and far between white flakes that I can blow away, even my scalp looks normal. Now the back of my neck and ears itch and my chest and upper arms arms starting to itch too, though not nearly as much as my head. I bought head and shoulders which seemed to help the first shampoo, but now its back with a vengance. I still keep checking my head, terrified its lice, but I still see nothing and it's driving me nuts. I haven't changed anything at all...diet, any kinds of soaps, medication (I dont take any) or anything. If it doesn't subside I will be calling my Dr, but in the mean time keep me posted! I haven't found anything helpful for it yet!

Skin Mites can not be seen. If your scalp is not dried out at all I would suggest adding teatree oil to your shampoo. If this works you might want to treat as if you do have lice even if you don't. Mites love the scalp and are too small to see. A Doctor could tell you with a scrape. If your into natural remedies I would suggest the teatree method for sure. I have had mites before and this is how I treated them. Other signs of mites are teeny tiny little pop-able blisters around your nipples, inner arms or wrists (I know it sounds crazy). IF not I still would not rule out Mits AKA scabies.
