Left flank - odd sensation
I have a very strange sensation in my left flank. Sometimes it is higher up by and sometimes it is lower but always on the left side.
It isn't a pain but an annoyance. It sort of feels like a fist on the inside trying to push out or a big bubble. It is so hard to explain that I embarrassed myself at my doctors office trying to tell him what was going on. I did have an xray which was clean and he wanted me to go for a MRI but I haven't yet as I am claustrophobic.
Does anyone out there have any idea of what this is or where I should go for help?
It isn't a pain but it is so totally annoying that it is driving me insane.
Thanks much.

Re: Left flank - odd sensation
this sounds to me as if it could be of spinal origin.pressure on a nervein your neck or high in your back could well account for it.is there something you do at work or at play that may be straining your upper back?have you had an accident perhaps preceding the start of symptoms? treat as a mild spinal strain while it is investigated further.ordinary activity mitigated by care while resisting any temptation to accelerate matters by exercisemay help.a scan of the upper spine may reveal the source of the problem as no x-ray will..

I am also claustrophobic but had to have my third MRI recently. What really hepled was wearing some eye masks so if I opened my eyes I was not aware of how close the machine surrounded me... and they allowed me to play a CD of my favourite music, it really helped my 1 hr , 1o min session.

I didn't go for a MRI as I am a chicken. I get really spooked in there and decided to come on here and find out if anyone else had this.
I am thinking more and more that it is some kind of nerve thing as my hand goes numb too on occasion. Does that happen to you?

No, I don't get any numbness. Also no paid really, just discomfort. When I sit in my car it feels like my back muscles are bigger on the left flank side vs right flank side - I rarely notice it otherwise. Could it be IBS?

It is almost impossible to say what is wrong with you the best diagnostic tool the doctors have is an mri even that may not reveal your problem but it is the most likely way you will find out what your problem is.

Same experience here. The doc said I need to stretch and get a massage but I think it is much more than that. I requested an MRI but the doc said that isn't necessary. I just want to know why I am feeling like something is moving on my left flank area. No pain, just discomfort. Claudia did you ever find out this answer? This just started 4 Feb 10. Thanks for any helpful information. Janice

OMG!!! I have the same exact problem and around the same exact time. Mine started around the 5th, maybe. No pain, no other issues, just discomfort and a bubbly feeling. My doc did some bloodwork, since I was due for a physical, but I was feeling nervous, so I checked it out on my own for quicker answers. Do you have a verdice Claudia?
