headaches, facial numbness and tingling, neck pain
hi. thanks in advace for reading this. since the birth of my son 3 months ago i have been having so many med. problems. i was getting head aches every day and eye pain. went to a nuro and he diagnosed me with migraines. well, last week they suddenly stopped. now my face is numb and tingling, my neck feels like someone is grabbing it. even my tounge is tingly. my dr said could be a reaction to the meds (verapamil and prednisone) but i have not taken verapamil for several days now. also my ears feel clogged. could this be something else? isnt it strange my head and eye pain just disapeared and now this is happening??? i am so sad. i just want to be healthy and there for my new baby boy. thanks.

Re: headaches, facial numbness and tingling, neck pain
You might consider getting your thyroid gland checked out. I had migraines, neuro symptoms and fatigue and eventually got diagnosed with a rare complication of autoimmune thyroiditis called Hashimoto's Encephalopathy. It was diagnosed by checking my thyroid ANTIBODIES- most people have normal TSH and other thyroid hormones. Also, my gland was subsequently found to be full of nodules on ultrasound. For years, I had been reassured that my gland was okay, because all my hormones were okay.
Looking back, my symptoms seemed to worsen every time I went on birth control pills to try and clear up my skin. It's well known that thyroid illness is affected by female hormone levels- and pregnancy can also predispose you. So it might be worthwhile looking into. HE can cause severe migraines and also neuro symptoms. It gets better with steroids.
Best Wishes

Re: headaches, facial numbness and tingling, neck pain
Your symptoms sound exactly like mine did, I went misdiagnosed for 8 years before finding out I have Arnold Chiari Malformation. I am not a doctor, not a specialist. But it just sounds very, very familiar...I would suggest asking your doctor for an MRI to rule it out, it's painless and non-invasive and pretty simple.
Here's a link to a site that explains the symptoms and what it is:
http://asap.org/chiari-malformation.html
Whatever you decide to do, don't ever let a doctor tell you "it's in your head". If you really feel there is something wrong continue going to doctors until they find what it is, when I was finally diagnosed my doctors where floored- but it took me 8 years of begging for an MRI and being told it was just a bad migraine.
Hope you find the answers you are looking for and you're on your way to a speedy recovery so you can enjoy your baby
