Recurring anal abscesses for 2 yrs!
I'm an otherwise healthy 25/F.
I just posted an extremely long message and wrongdiagnosis logged me out for being on here too long-lol.
Have had so many abscess in the exact same spot for 2 years! Have had 3 fistulotomies, the first 2 done by general surgeons, the last by an anal/rectal surgeon. I have had so many abscesses that did not require fistulotomies I can't even count them. They are all in the exact same spot.
I have had CAT scans, MRI's and today a colonoscopy to try to find out what's going on. Nothing found.
I don't have any other medical problems. Lots of people have suggested Crohn's, but I only have "stomach problems" maybe a few days out of the month and it does not run in my family.
Please advise, anything!!!

I dont know if this is any help to you for where uve got ur abcess's but i have reacurring abcess's/boils on my groin/panty line area for years. after continually getting courses of antibiotics they never went away, as soon as i stopped taking tabs they wud return with a vengence. i tryed all sorts of things but nothing worked untill i started using Clinique No.2 clarafying lotion then E45 cream & it always works a treat to draw them & release the infection out but i have to continually use it or they come back. I even took a boil in my ear, needed antibiotics but i also used the Clinique & it burst on the second night. hope this is some use to u..............good luck

E45 cream is a dermatological cream, it treats & soothes a wide range of shin conditions, its a product of Crookes healthcare UK.
I dont really think its that actual cream that works, another one might do.
I think the way it works is that the clinique lotions weakens the skin on the abcess, & the E45 cream softens it so it draws easier & gets the infection out.
Here is the ingredients in E45 : white soft paraffin BP 14.5 % w/w, light liquid paraffin Ph Eur 12.6 % w/w. Hypoallergenic Anhydrous lanolin (Medilan)1.0%w/w. Also Contains: Glyceryl Monostearate,Citric Acid Monohydrate, Cetyl Alcohol, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Cetostearyl Sulphate. Carbomer, Methyl Hydroxbenzoate, Propyl Hydroxybenzoate,Purified water.
I like u was desperate & just starting trying things. I stumbled on this as i had it in the house, thought id give it a try. Its not a known treatment for boils/abcesses......but it was the only thing that actually worked for me.
Hope it helps......Good luck

Re: Recurring anal abscesses for 2 yrs!
Hi, i am currently having simular problems, i have had minor surgery on two abbsess in the same area as yours and the second op was unsuccessfull meaning that i have been left with a sinus and open wound that will not heal causing recurrent boils in fact i have had four infections since the op. I have been advised i have a fistula, which i understand as being a abnormal sinus or tract in the bowel area that causes abbsess and i belive the fistula is feeding the abbcess therefore my wound is not healing. I am awaiting further surgery.
I have found the process frustrating and uncomfortable and feel for you in this situation. It sounds like you have had many tests and i would suggest you ask for a second opinion if you are having no luck, medical proffesionalsl are the best people to help but don't be shy about repeating requests for answers and to feel healthy again.
Best of luck,
Suzie

Re: Recurring anal abscesses for 2 yrs!
Well, this post is kinda late for your orginal question, but hopefully it helps someone else that stumbles across this thread.
I've had multiple cysts for years, appearing in various parts of my body, sometimes one right after the other and lasting for months at a time... My research says possible problems range from genetic skin disorders to staph infection. I was told by the doc that I've got sebaceous cysts, that my condition is normal (not an infection or disease), and that it's tough to prevent recurrences.
However, here are a few preventative methods that may help. Diet and excercise are important; cysts occur more often in overweight individuals. A diet high in fat and carbs is no good; try eating lean meats and vegetables regularly. Sweat could be related, so if you sweat heavily try to avoid strenuous activity in the heat, and wash thoroughly afterwards. Wash with antibacterial soap daily, and keep your clothing and sheets clean as well.
For Sebaceous Cysts, the best treatment is to notice them early and put a warm compress or hot sitz bath for 15-20 minutes twice a day to help the swelling go down and possibly get it to come to a head and drain on its own. NEVER try to pop a sebaceous cyst cause it can drive the infection deeper (although i'm not sure about ganglion cysts... but if you dont know for sure what you have, best not to pop it!). If it doesnt drain on its own within about a week or two, go see your doctor and they'll prescribe antibiotics or surgically remove it (I recommend the surgery, cause it's worked better for me than antibiotics ever did).
If you've never had a lump before, go to your doctor and find out what it is. The next time you get one you'll recognize it and properly treat it as your doctor prescribes.
Good luck, and good health.

Hi Carolyn,
I just read your post below and it's kinda shocking how our medical history look similar!!!
In fact, abt a few mins before, i was discussing same with yet another surgeon! I 've had anal abscess for abt 2 years now and dont even remember the no of times i had surgery! I 've had fistulotomies on 3 occasions and drainage of abscess on several occasions. I went to singapore to have surgery with a anal/rectum specialist but still the same problem keeps coming up.
The last doc i just consulted talked abt a seton. Anybody heard abt that? Is it an efficient way to get rid of this??
Pls help!
Thanks and goodluck to all
Robert

Happy New year Robert,
A Seton procedure is where the surgeon inserts heavy suture thread through the fistula out into the rectum and out through the anus tying a knot in the suture thread. Potty and gravity gradually cut the tissue supposedly allowing the fistula/abscess to heal and ultimately close. This process can take up to 6 months to accomplish it's task and the last few weeks get really tough. Dull pain and me being a real sh-- made my family glad when the Dr. finally cut the string. I went through this process this last winter (Feb - Sep) with ZERO success. I have an uncorrected perianal abscess that has also plagued me for over 2 yrs. Nothing has helped. Anyone out there have any ideas or recommendations?

Re: Recurring anal abscesses for 2 yrs!
Robert, I had a loose seton installed on 022810. This is different from a cutting seton as discribed. Mine is rubber and looks like a thin ruberband which is tied loose and does not cut the tissue. It will be in for 4 weeks and is used to allow drainage of the fistula. It will be removed and the fistula will be closed using a firber glue plug to fill the cavity. I had 3 prior procedures were the abscess/ fistula was lanced and drained using packing gauze. All were done by a colorectal surgeon. As for different options, try http://www.fascrs.org/ I found it very informative. Hope this helps.[QUOTE=bobgray1;212504]
