Re: eye twitch
I had and eye twitch in my lower lid for almost 2 weeks straight! I work at an eye clinic and the Dr. said it could be allergies, even though I didn't have any other symtoms. I tried a prescription allergy eye drop called Zaditor and my eye stopped twitching after 2 days of use. Hope this helps.

Re: eye twitch
I have had the MOST IRRITATING eye twitch in my lower right lid for almost 3 weeks now, also. It is a fast and constant tick; VERY noticeable. It only occasionally goes away and never for long. It is much worse when nearing bedtime or when I'm upset or anxious. I, too, would be grateful to learn of possible causes. I have also had many other strange neurological symptoms lately: hand and forearm shaking/tremors, crawling skin sensations, and a brief (one-time, 30 hr. period) of urinary incontinence. Oh and also sometimes my fingertips are numb; weak hands/feet; occasional numbness/burning sensation in half of my right big toe. Any ideas?

Re: eye twitch
Get yourself to a doctor, hopefully a neurologist. All of the symptoms you are describing are neurologic. They could be a sign of a serious problem. If you just have an eye twitch, that's one thing, but muscle weakness, tremors, numbness, and loss of bladder control, there could be something seriously wrong.

Re: eye twitch
I am an optometrist and I hear this question a lot. You are describing a 'blepharospasm', which is an aberrant twitching of the muscle of the lid. It is usually associated with fatigue, stress or possibly eye strain (ie: if you need reading glasses and are straining to read without them). Usually it feels weird and is anoying but is not pathological. In some cases where it will not go away botox is used...in fact that is how botox was discovered to work cosmetically! Your 'twitch' should go away on its own...it rarely lasts more than a few weeks, and usually much less.

Re: eye twitch
The field of medicine is so funny. "Blepharo" comes from the Greek word for eyelid. Blepharospasm = eyelid spasms. So you go to the doctor and say "I have a twitch in my eyelid," and they say, "yes, I can diagnose you, you have 'eyelid spasms'." And you're thinking, I just told you that......
Don't confuse this with Benign Essential Blepharospasm, which is a type of dystonia, and usually affects both eyes, upper and lower lids. It usually begins with excessive blinking, rather than a twitch.

Re: eye twitch
I have been having an eye twitch problem as well. It started about a year ago. My youngest daughter was the first to notice it. It started out that it only happend when I talked. When I would say words that had a 'P" or a "B" my left eye would twitch. It started getting more pronounced to happening when I would eat. The chewing motion would make my eye twitch. Now it happens almost constantly. Any change in the direction I hold my head or if I start talking makes it worse. When I first get up in the morning it is so bad that now the twitch has also progressed to the point that my upper left lip will twitch as well as the right side of my chin. I really don't have the money to go to a doctor and am hoping someone might know what this is and why it is progressing. Oh yeah I am not on any medications nor doI take any drugs.

About three weeks ago the bottom of my left eye twitched only when I winked.I went to the eye doctor and was told it was nothing but stress and to much coffee. The next day it just went away. Two weeks later when I was tweezing my eye brows I noticed the corner of my eye just twiching on its own.The next evening the top of my left lip started to twitch.Nothong really noticeable unless you realy looked at it.I went to the doctor and he told me not to worry it is do to nerves and too much coffee. But I am still scared. This morning the lip actually stpped for about an hour. But then it started again.I am scared!

Re: eye twitch
Hello everyone, okay...my eyelid first started twitching right after a car accident that hurt my neck and put my vertebrae out of alignment. It lasted for a couple of MONTHS! Then went away on its own. Now for the last 3 weeks I've had it again, but have missed my regular chiropractic appointment and hence my neck is out of alignment. My guess is that while, yes, stress and lack of sleep (i have not gotten enough sleep in the last 3 weeks) BUT ALSO stress in anyone tends to create muscle tension, especially the upper back and NECK...which pulls on the spine...which PUTS PRESSURE ON YOUR NERVE...which I'm pretty sure affects or at least contributes to EYE TWITCHING. I'm not a doctor though...it may be a combination of factors. It's definitely frustrating...you are not alone. I would suggest medicating yourself to sleep for a few days in a row, then if that fails, try a chiropractor or eye specialist.
Just when I thought it was weird to sneeze and then have my eyelid spasm right after, it got worse. Now when I pull a sweater up over my head, it triggers a spasm.
Geeeeezz!!!

Re: eye twitch
I had eye twitching on and off (mostly on) for months some years ago. It turns out that for me it was a vitamin/mineral deficiency. I started taking calcium and a good multivitamin and it went away. I'd tried eye drops and that didn't work only taking vitamins and minerals worked.
