proximal swelling rt index finger x 3.5 weeks
Almost 4 weeks ago, my rt index finger started swelling at the base- tender to the touch. Within a couple of days I had paraesthesia in fingers bilaterally, but not always at the same time. At two weeks of swelling- I went to my PCP and xrays were negative for fractures and white count was slightly elevated (11.9) and ESR was at 24 (also slightly elevated). I started on ZPAC. After the ZPAC did nothing, I went to the ER for an evaluation. The ER doc had "no idea" what was wrong and I was started on Clindamycin. I'm almost finished w/ my second antibiotic and swelling is as evident as ever. When I put traction on the finger- there is a distinct area of white growth that you can see under the skin. Also, MY UPPER ARM ACHES! I called my PCP doc again- he wasn't there and a different physician prescribed yet ANOTHER antibiotic (Cipro). Any ideas???
