    Default Alcohol/fatigue/hallucinations

    Hi everybody,

I have an odd problem. I live in college and hense am quite a big drinker (I know i know - i am an idiot!). I have noticed that the night after a big night out, when i am quite tired and trying to sleep, that when i close my eyes i experience a sensation where the blackness seems to become 3D (or attains a certain 'depth'). I see people's faces flash in and out of my vision. Other times i get heavy blotching like when you press on your eyes for too long. I have found that these sort of visions are not necessarily related to drinking as i experience them if i have a few very late nights in a row due to studying.

Does anyone know what this could be? Could there any possible links to stress and dehydration of the brain?

    Thanks very much!

I don't know but I can tell you this: being a college student does not necessarily entail: 1) lots of drinking 2) late nights studying or 3) stress. 1 is causing 2 and 3. Stop drinking for 2 weeks and see if your symptoms go away. If not, go to your medical center. If you cannot stop drinking, my friend, you have a drinking problem, college student or no.

From one who has been there.

Sounds to me like you may be damaging your brain from all of the alcohol. Not everyone's body is able to tolerate excessive alcohol consumption.

Are you drinking enough water? ESPECIALLY when drinking alcohol it's essential to drink lots of fluids because of excessive urination which washes out both fluids and electrolytes. Gatorade/PowerAid are recommended, especially for hangovers (which are basically caused by a state of dehydration).

My recommendation is to stop drinking and see what happens. Don't let your friends control your life-X years down the road when you have a serious condition because of alcohol and they don't, you're the only one who is going to be sorry.
