My dad was taken by ambulance to local hospital for what everyone though was a stroke. I am the one who called 911 after my daughter in law had found him slumped in a chair leaning to the right and not very responsive. I arrived and tried talking to him, he said he loved me and then couldn't speak anymore. My first thought was stroke due to age and medical history. EMTs also thought stroke. Transported to local hospital where we were told he had had a stroke. They tried to get him into VA hospital but were told there were no ICU rooms available and he would be taken by ambulance to hospital that was better able to treat him.
So much about our five day stay at that hospital as I stayed there with him is so unexplainable! Bottom line... no ICU room, tests delayed, finally diagnosed with pnuemonia!!
