    Default Vibrating feeling in head

I am a healthy 50 year old woman who had a very bad cold including high fever in January. After 1.5 wks. of upper respiratory problems, I started to feel better, but starting January 25th, I had the sensation that the left side of my brain was vibrating. It came and went, but would continue for hours at a time. I had several days completely symptom free, but then the vibration sensation returned. The neurologist after a complete exam said I most likely was experiencing post viral neuritis, but ordered a MRI which will be done this week. The senation has changed somewhat. It's not localized to the left side as it first was. It's more defuse now and more concentrated to the back of my head. I hope this means it's improving. But it's really irritating. It's glucose sensitive because when I am hungry, it flares up. It is also temperture sensitive (I was wearing a cap while hiking, took it off, and immediately had the vibration start up). It is also adrenline sensitive because I thought I lost something important and the vibration started up when I found it missing. Anyone have experince with a post viral neuritis symptom like this? Many thanks.

Hi NewYorkGal. I have a vibrating feeling in my head as well. I don't experience it in one particular area of my head. I pretty much feel it all throughout (it seems to radiate out from the base of my head). It started out of the blue in the beginning of January 2007 with my head not feeling right. It didn't feel clear or normal. I thought it was just due to stress (I had high daily stress in my job for the last year). It first came and went, but then as the weeks progressed, I started to notice it more. It also became more describable (a vibration feeling not a noise). I also noticed that as the weeks progressed I felt it more and on a constant basis. I now pretty much have it all the time (day and night) with various intensities. I have found it difficult to explain to people without making myself sound like I'm crazy. I thought if I got rid of the stress (left my high stress job) it would go away, but it didn't. It's the craziest thing I've ever experienced! I don't have any pain with this, and I don't feel sick. I don't have any dizziness or vision problems either. I do have different levels of the vibrating feeling (low, medium, and high). There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when I get it or the length of the intensity. I pretty much feel it all the time. I notice that some things make the level of vibrations worse (like stress). What's frustrating is that it's like a vicious circle, as these sensations have caused a lot of anxiety in me, which in turn makes the vibrations worse. So I really have to use many relaxation techniques to try to calm myself. I have been to my primary care physician, a neurologist, a naturopathic doctor, a chiropractor and a massage therapist. I have had many blood tests and they all came back normal. I have had an MRI and it came back normal. I also had an EEG which showed some abstract (?), but the neurologist still considered it normal. She said we could do a sleep deprived EEG, as that sometimes shows something more, but I haven't tried that yet, as I wanted to try alternative treatments first (regular doctors just want to prescribe drugs which haven't helped and just produce other side effects) When the vibrations is at a medium or high level, I feel it throughout my body too. It's really difficult to sleep. I find I have to listen to brainwave CD (sleep music) as this helps to distract me from the vibrations. I still wake up every couple of hours, but at least I get some sleep. This whole ordeal has gotten very frustrating as it has gone on for two months and doctors can't find anything that could be causing it! It's also causing depression in me as no one seems to be able to relate to what I'm going through, so when I saw your posting, I had to write. My doctors think it strange as well, as they haven't come across anyone in their practice with my same symptoms. I just want to feel normal again, so if you find any solutions or anything that helps you, please let me know. I find that distracting myself seems to help somewhat. It's when I sit or lay down and try to relax that it's most prominent. Well let me know if you find out any answers.

    Default hope this helps

I haven't read all of your posts but I wanted to make sure you have seen a neurologist and a psychiatrist(not for any 'mental' problems but for the extremely complicated neurotransmitters and their functions in psychical responses. Psychiatrists can also figure out if you have an infection, virus, whatever that has had an effect on your brain chemistry malfunctioning).

My thread "slept my 30's away" may show you what can happen when neurotransmitters malfunction. Anxiety, not even realizing that I live in a constant state of panic, has lead my to once be successful and now bed ridden and losing everything.

I found a neurologist that figured out my problem. I also used to feel like someone hit me over the head with a frying pan(like in a cartoon) and my head was vibrating.

If you go to a neurologist or psychiatrist, make sure you like them and sort of 'click' with them. Try to find the article, google it, called Brain Chemistry(has an analogy of our neurotransmitters and a baseball game). Panic411.org has also helped me immensly.

I understand how hard if not impossible it is to function when your head (not psychological state) isn't feeling 'right'. I is difficult to describe to people/doctors who do not understand.

I am getting better pretty quickly (doc added clonopin(sp?) but it was difficult to take at first). This could be totally different from what is happening to you but after eight years of visiting top doctors and clinics, it was a neurologist that nailed my problem for me. I haven't seen a psychiatrist yet but it is my next immediate stop.

I hope this helps! The articles I listed are worth reading, and I've read tons before I came upon these.

Hope you feel better really soon!

There are quite a few women that complain of vibrating/tremors on a website called www.power-surge.com. If you go to the website click on the article for "Internal Shaking" to see what other women are saying. The website mainly is for women with hormonal issues, but maybe there is a link between hormones and the vibrating/shaking/tremors. Hope that helps.

I'm a 35 year old male who has experienced a "vibrating brain" sensation at two periods in my life, once during my teens, the other time in my 20s. I would describe it as "discomfort" rather than "pain". It was very frustrating because family members and doctors were baffled and didn't understand what I was complaining about. I found temporary relief by shaking my head and neck which seemed to relieve the symptoms. Eventually the problem cleared up by itself. But I'd still like to know what caused it, and whether there's a proper medical term for this condition.

Question Re: Vibrating feeling in head

My vibration's started in October 2007! Im a 25 year old woman, i have a stressfull job and im always on the go. I suffered with migraine 3 years ago which resulted in me being admitted to hospital for one week and having a CT scan, this came back normal, my neurologist put me on propanalol beta blockers and said this should get rid of the mirgain. Juring this time i had a few personnel problems which resulted in panic attack. I found that taking the beta blockers got rid of my migrain and also helped with the anxiety to carry on and deal with the day to day pressures of work........untill 18 months later. I was on holiday, my flight was cancelled and this resulted in me not taking my medication properly for a couple of days. When i returned back from holiday i suffered with severe tremors, i couldnt sleep, i thought i was going in sain, this was very upsetting and disturbing, i felt as if my body moved a couple of seconds after i did, or some times if i were sat at my desk, i felt as if someone was shaking my chair permanently. I saw four doctors who said it must be the propanalol and told me to stop taking it, they said that the 80mg a day was only a small dose and i should be okay. For six more weeks i suffered a severe cold turkey which was not explained to me by my doctor but in fact by a neurologist who said i should never of stopped the medication and that i should of been weened off the beta blockers over a period of the 3 months (And i was simply messed about by the system). At this time i was suffereing from a buzzing sensation in the left side of my head. My neurologist said to take a couple of paracetamol and that this should just go away by its self! It is now 7 months later and im still suffering from this buzzing - vibration sensation in my head, its getting me down and i dont want to go back to the doctor as i feel there is simply nothing they can do?? Some times the sensation goes, but as soon as i sit down to relax im immediatly aware of it!!! Please help this is ruling my life, as much as i try to stay strong and forget about it............its still there and never seems to go away!

    Hi Marshall,

Iwould like very much for someone like you or anyone that experience those same symptomsto write me.
I have an inflamation in the sinuse, I have seen three defferent ENT, they can't even agree with eachother. The vibration in my head is an everyday thing, expecially at night is much worse, but with it, I also feel pressure and buzzing.
Axiety and panic sets in, I feel like you, helpless!! I also experience a prickling burning sensation in my feet, and my vibration travels to my legs as well.
The strange thing is, when I feel it coming I have a watery discharge out my nose, but not like a running nose, more like I have to blow it hard to make it come out.
I am older than you, I could be thinking of an hormonal unbalance, but not in your case.
I have red different post about this subject, it seems that among us with similar complains in a way or another we all mention panic, stress, and axiety. Could it be what really is afflicting us? The disconcertand news at list for me, is that I have tried different med like Zoloft,Lexpro, Paxil, effexor , but non of those med as brought the relif I need. Actually Xanex is the only thing that helps!! I am convinced that in my case ,the sinuse inflamation is causing my problem, my head fills up with fluid press against a nerve, causing the vibration and buzzing, plus the prickling in my feet!!

Please, all of you write me at Jildaspr@aolcom

I'm male in my late teens and from what you all describe most of it seems to match up with my symptoms. What I'm trying right now is the Holosync program, which is audio that does something to the neurons in your brain. You can google it and learn more about it if you're interested. So far I would recommend it, and you can get you're money back within a year if it doesn't seem to work. It's surprising what it does though and I really hope you give this a try.
